Role Responsibilities

Join a dynamic team driving Alberta’s workforce resilience and sector growth.

We are seeking a strategic, relationship-focused professional to deliver workforce initiatives and support Alberta industries and employers navigating global economic change. Reporting to the Director of Industry and Investor Supports, this role strengthens partnerships across government, industry, and community to advance workforce solutions to enhance participation, competitiveness, and job creation across the province.

What You will Do:

  • Nurture workforce partnerships across priority sectors, engaging with stakeholders and coordinating responses to labour market challenges and emerging economic pressures.
  • Help deliver the Canada-Alberta Workforce Resilience Initiative by promoting the grant program, reviewing proposals, managing grant agreements, reporting on progress/issues/outcomes, and supporting sectors as they adapt to shifting work realities.
  • Analyze labour market intelligence to identify trends, risks, and opportunities that inform strategic planning and program development.
  • Advise senior leadership on workforce challenges and issues, sector insights, and policy considerations.
  • Represent the ministry on committees and working groups, promoting awareness of provincial and federal workforce programs.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience in the industry, workforce development or related employment. One year of degree for one year of education and vice versa will be considered as equivalent.

Knowledge and skills required:

  • Working knowledge and experience of workforce planning and development, domestic and international sector developments, sector policies and practices, applicable legislation (i.e. Employment Standards, OHS and Labour Relations) and initiatives by other orders of government and industry.
  • Experience working with employers, non-profits and industry associations and with networking with external government stakeholders on collaborative projects. Knowledge of Alberta’s professional and trade associations.
  • Strong experience with grant management, policies and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the Alberta economy.
  • Knowledge of Alberta workforce trends and key labour markets and labour pools. 
  • Knowledge and skill in engagement with stakeholders. 
  • In-depth understanding of sector workforce challenges.
  • Knowledge of government policies and programs, both at the provincial and federal level.
  • String understanding of Alberta government decision-making processes, policy directions, priorities and departmental responsibilities.
  • Understanding of policy and program development processes.
  • Strong use of MS Office Suite.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written).
  • Strong engagement skills, with the ability to communicate, negotiate, influence and develop solid internal and external relationships with stakeholders at all levels while applying analytical, problem-solving and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrates excellence by achieving results in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete information and under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • A strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork is needed to effectively manage and coordinate initiatives in Alberta that support the department’s business plan.
  • The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, officials at all levels, sector stakeholders, partners and the public.

There is one full-time temporary (ends March 31, 2028) position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday from a government office.

The core team works from Commerce Place, Edmonton. If you are applying from another city, we may have other government office space; please detail in your cover letter how you would engage and collaborate on this work away from the core team.
