Role Responsibilities

As a Senior Child Intervention (CI) Practitioner, you will be engaged in the implementation of the organizational goals and an active participant in decision-making and collaboration amongst colleagues, CI families, programs, stakeholders, and leadership.

The position is a senior working level practitioner responsible for child intervention activities and performing the full scope of duties of the role. This position is considered an expert in all competency areas of the field of Child Intervention and applies extensive theoretical knowledge and regional/provincial program expertise to lead in the field of practice, enhancing the lives of children, youth and their families. This position will provide support to other CI Practitioners through mentoring and supporting the organizational goals of Children’s Services.

You must demonstrate proficiency in the application of the Signs of Safety tools and in its philosophy merged with the Practice Strategies. You will have a lead role, with minimal supervision, in managing complex cases such as joint police investigations involving physical and sexual abuse, or other complex child intervention cases.

The Senior Child Intervention (CI) Practitioner is responsible for maintaining enhanced complex intervention cases and safety planning for assessment and ongoing case planning, by managing services, and using practice principles to meet the unmet needs of vulnerable children, youth and families within timelines specified by legislation.
The Senior Child Intervention (CI) Practitioner will also work with and support Entry Level CI Practitioners across a variety of units, such as: 
 

-    Intake: Supporting Entry Level CI Practitioners and conducting intake assessments for clients who require our services. 
-    Youth: the incumbent will be responsible for complex case files regarding complex youth who require our services and mentor Entry Level CI Practitioners working on their files within the unit. 
-    Indigenous: the incumbent will be responsible for working with key stakeholders in First Nations communities, providing services to indigenous children, families, and youth and mentoring Entry Level CI Practitioners within the unit. 
-    General Child Intervention: the incumbent will be responsible for a variety of different roles within CI and provide general CI expertise and mentorship to Entry Level CI Practitioners.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Social Work and 1 Year related experience.
  • Equivalencies considered: Master of Social Work and some related experience; OR related university degree and 3 years related experience; OR related Diploma and 4 years related experience; OR related certificate and 5 years related experience. 
  • Currently or eligible to become a registered member of ACSW in good standing with the college. 
  • Note: Equivalency for professional roles related to Child Intervention: Directly related degree or diploma, successful completion of in-service or comparable training and some directly related experience.


Related Experience: 

  • Conducting assessments and managing case files across legal authorities. 
  • Experience applying Child Intervention Legislation, Regulations and Policy. 
  • Experience with Safety Planning in a youth-focused environment. 
  • Experience implementing Signs of Safety and the CIP Framework Principles. 
  • Experience managing a caseload with minimal supervision. 


Note:
To be considered for interview you must be a delegated worker and preferably have 3 years of direct child intervention experience.

Role Requirements 
As per the Health Professions Act, successful applicants must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) to be eligible for this position if they possess a Bachelor or Diploma in Social Work. For more information, visit http://www.acsw.ab.ca/
