Role Responsibilities

Manager, Child Intervention (CI) 

As a Children Intervention Manager, you will lead and oversee the delivery of quality intervention services and programs for children, youth, and families. Your leadership ensures alignment with regional and ministry goals, compliance with relevant legislation and standards, and effective program implementation. In this role, you will guide a shift from a child protection mindset to fostering healthy families and communities through collaboration and partnerships. You will also apply a system-thinking approach to deliver culturally appropriate, safe services, with a focus on Indigenous communities by integrating Indigenous ways of knowing with western practices. Additionally, you will employ diverse strategies to foster and evaluate meaningful working relationships.


Manager, Child Intervention (CI) – Supporting Metis Settlements 

The Manager of Métis Settlements is responsible for delivering culturally appropriate, high-quality services to Métis families and communities. This role ensures the implementation of tailored programs that align with Métis traditions and values while adhering to provincial and federal legislation. Key responsibilities include overseeing service delivery, fostering community collaboration, promoting anti-oppressive practices, and integrating Métis knowledge with modern care standards. The manager will also work closely with Métis leaders and partners to create holistic support systems, empowering Métis families and strengthening community resilience.


Manager, Indigenous Practice Supports 

As an Indigenous Practice Supports Manager, you will lead the delivery of culturally appropriate intervention services, ensuring they align with regional and ministry goals while complying with relevant legislation and standards. You will provide expert consultation on complex cases involving Indigenous children, offering an Indigenous perspective to guide intake, assessments, casework, and permanency planning through meaningful consultation with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit representatives. In this role, you will lead initiatives to ensure Indigenous children are registered for Band membership and Indian status, as well as guide staff in applying culturally informed practices. You will also develop and deliver training on Indigenous identity, cultural sensitivity, and trauma-informed practices, ensuring staff make sound decisions regarding cultural safety and life-long connections for Indigenous children. Additionally, you will build and maintain partnerships with Indigenous communities, fostering collaboration and participation in cultural events to enhance service delivery and access for urban Indigenous populations.

  • Provide leadership, guidance and support, to a team of of front-line staff. 
  • Ensure services delivered are aligned with the key strategies and business goals of the region.
  • Reflect and uphold the vision of the region, department and ministry, and comply with appropriate legislation, regulations and provincial standards, regional policies, and fiscal targets.  
  • Champion the implementation of programs and new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the ministry and the region.
  • Support the shift in mindset from child protection to healthy families by developing positive communities, promoting collaborative partnership to achieve better outcomes for children, youth, and families. 
  • Applying a system thinking approach by considering trends in various program environments and keeping broader impacts and connections in mind, to ensure culturally appropriate services are delivered to children and that they remain safe.
  • Utilizing your experience of working with diverse communities and populations to be confident in employing a variety of different diversity and inclusion strategies to initiate, support and evaluate working relationships. 
  • Demonstrate anti-oppressive practices in your work with urban and rural Indigenous communities and will have the ability to combine Indigenous ways of knowing with standard western approaches to working with people

Qualifications

Education:
Preferred education is a Bachelor of Social Work with at least four (4) years of related supervisory experience in a child protection environment. Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers must be in good standings. 

Equivalencies:
The following equivalencies maybe considered:

  • Master of Social Work and three (3) years of experience; or
  • A related university degree with four (4) years of related experience; or
  • A related diploma plus six (6) years of related experience.


Preference will be given to those who have experience in: 

  • Child protection responsible for providing a full range of child protection duties delegated under a provincial or equivalent child welfare legislation. 
  • Hold current delegation under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act in Alberta and have the related skills, abilities, knowledge and experience to be delegated.
  • Safety Phase and Intake Workflow.
  • Leading and managing a diverse team that does complex work. 
  • Managing systems and processes including performance management, budgeting, and forecasting processes, human resources.  
  • Extensive experience working with Indigenous and diverse communities. 
  • Developing, evaluating, implementing policy initiatives, programs, and services. 
  • Demonstrated capacity to build effective partnerships with internal and external customers, clients, staff, and stakeholders essential to this position. 
  • Strong planning, analytical, issues management and consultative skills are required.


Assets: 

  • Proficient computer skills.  
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and SharePoint. 
  • Working knowledge of the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act, Child Intervention Practice Framework, Signs of Safety.  


Role Requirements:

  • Candidates must have completed or be in the process of completing the Foundations, and Relationship and Culture pathways in the Ministry’s ICUF to be considered for the role. You may be asked to confirm training completion as part of your application.

Notes

This position works Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours a week. 
 

The role may require additional hours beyond the regular workday, including weekends, on-call duties, and travel as necessary.
 

Three permanent positions are available:

  • Manager, Indigenous Practice Supports
     

Preference would be for the successful candidate to reside in the North Region. Relocation support will be considered. 
 

Travel and Vehicle Requirements:

  • Travel will be required in these roles; therefore, final candidates for this position will be asked to provide a current 5-year Commercial Driver Abstract. 
  • Employees must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle that is suitable to the requirements of this position. Employees will be required to use their own vehicles when government fleet vehicles are not available. 
  • The ability to travel within the region is required.
