Role Responsibilities

We are looking to hire seasonal staff to work in one of our many warehouses located across Alberta.  Warehouses are located in Rocky Mountain House, Calgary, Edson, Whitecourt, Grande Prairie, Peace River, High Level, Fort McMurray, Lac La Biche, Edmonton and Slave Lake. The warehouses receive, store and issue equipment and supplies to firefighting teams within the designated area location.

Warehouse Support (OS2):
The Warehouse Support Person is responsible for performing a range of logistical and operational tasks to ensure the efficient management of equipment and supplies. Key responsibilities include receiving, storing, and issuing materials to Forestry staff, coordinating transportation of equipment to designated locations, and maintaining emergency readiness through equipment repair, cleaning, and restocking. The role also involves assembling and certifying equipment kits to meet fire line standards, supporting other Government of Alberta programs such as the Detection Program by facilitating procurement and delivery of supplies, and assisting with surplus equipment management. During large-scale fire incidents, the incumbent may participate in supply section operations to issue and track equipment. Additional duties include operating a forklift for loading and unloading deliveries and working both independently and collaboratively to meet operational objectives.

Stockkeeper (OS3):
This position has a significant effect on delivery of equipment both locally and throughout the province for the Forestry Division programs from Wildfire Management to Forest Health and Forest Management programs. You will make decisions on daily operations independently based on established standards and guidelines. The Warehouse Supervisor may give specific work assignments. Work is reviewed informally on a daily basis by the supervisor where evaluation is based on the work’s accuracy, timelines and feedback from clients and supervisors.


In both roles, duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Receive goods into the warehouse, update data base using IMIS program, reconcile with purchase records and advise Supervisor of any quality or quality discrepancies in the order.
  • Build kits for the field using stock items to put together in accordance with the provincial kits lists and equipment standards.
  • Provide receiving services for other areas such as Telecommunications and staff from other fields and divisions.
  • Ship inventory, ensuring bills of lading and Transportation of Dangerous Good (TDG) paperwork are correct.
  • Ensure safe workplace practices are followed; maintain tool inventory, complete forklift maintenance.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Warehouse Support (OS2):

  • Some high school education,
  • One (1) year related experience (i.e., up to 12 months).


Stockkeeper (OS3):

  • High school education,
  • Plus, one (1) year related experience (i.e., up to 12 months).


*All candidates must be 18 years of age or older as of March 1, 2026, or prior to their start date.  Position start dates range from March 1 to April 30, 2026.

Equivalencies will be considered and candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.


Directly related experience or education may be considered on the basis of:

  • one year of experience for one year of education or 
  • one year of education for one year of experience.


Assets:

  • Highly organized individual with the ability to prioritize and time manage tasks.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (database entry, Excel, MS Word, Outlook).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to clearly communicate with clients and be able to read supply requests and complete paperwork as needed.
  • Knowledge of equipment and supplies used in Wildland Fire Suppression activities.
  • Good physical stamina for heavy lifting and standing for long periods of time.
  • Forklift Certification.
  • Retail, warehouse and customer service experience.

This competition is recruiting for seasonal wage Stockkeepers and Warehouse Support in the forest areas and locations listed below.

Large fires regularly have longer shift hours, which could include having work hours shifted to work weekends, evenings, and overnight on occasions.

What We Offer:

  • Wage employees receive 11.6% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:
    • 5.6 % of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
    • 6 % of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
  • Shift differential and opportunity to work overtime, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Premium Pay Allowances:
    • Wage employees residing above the 57th Parallel (i.e., High Level Forest Area) may be eligible for a biweekly Northern allowance of $241.38.
    • Wage employees residing within the Fort McMurray Forest Area receive a biweekly allowance of $478.17 (pro-rated for part-time employees).

About Your Work Environment: 

  • This competition is for seasonal wage Warehouse Support and Stockkeeper positions, scheduled for 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime as required.
    • This position may require you to work evenings and weekends to meet fire season operational needs.
  • Successful candidates will be provided with training.
    • This position requires the ability to lift at least 25 kg (55 lbs.)
    • Housing / living accommodations may be available, depending on work location.
  • Estimated term of employment is from 3 to 8 months during the wildfire season, anticipated between April 2026 to October 31, 2026, dependent on operational needs.
