Salary: $25.07 to $31.72 per hour
In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.6% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:
• 5.6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
• 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:
• $3.25 per hour for weekends
• $2.75 per hour for evenings
In addition, some northern Alberta locations are eligible for Northern Allowance and Fort McMurray; there is an additional Fort McMurray Allowance.

Central Region
Park Ranger (NR3) Placements are available in the following Districts: Red Deer, Rocky Mountain House, Camrose, Wainwright, Hinton, Spruce Grove.
South Region
Park Ranger (NR3) Placements are available in the following Districts: Dinosaur, Southeast (Cypress Hills and Writing-on-Stone), Pincher Creek, Lethbridge.
Kananaskis Region
Park Ranger (NR3) Placement is available in Bow Valley Provincial Park which also includes the Kananaskis Park.

Role Responsibilities
Park Rangers are passionate about protecting the environment and ensuring safe and enjoyable experiences for park visitors.
As a Park Ranger (NR3):
Park Rangers are the primary field contact for park visitors and dedicated to educating and encouraging voluntary compliance with parks legislation. In this position you will:
• Actively support a positive camping and recreational experience by delivering exceptional customer service, providing accurate information, and support issue resolution to park visitors.
• Travel by foot, bike, motor vehicle, or off-highway vehicle to rove trails, campgrounds, and day use areas to meet and communicate with a wide range of park users.
• Have strong understanding of the Provincial Parks Act and Regulations as necessary to educate visitors and stakeholders of park rules, as well as encourage voluntary compliance when required.
• Provide incident management support that impacts park operations.
• Monitor site conditions, respond to issues, and foster respectful behavior through information sharing and education.
• Park Ranger will support and follow emergency response protocol for both staff and visitors, which may include activation of Park Emergency Response Plans (e.g. missing persons).
• Support the installation of signage (e.g. warnings/advisories, boundary signage).
• Park Rangers will comply with the occupational health and safety program.
As a Park Ranger, you will be required to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. You must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any type of weather conditions, rain or shine.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma plus some related experience (i.e. up to 12 months).
Additional education and experiences include:
• Preference may be given to candidates enrolled in or having completed post-secondary education in Natural Resource related programs, Environmental Sciences, Recreation or Tourism Management, Criminology/Justice Studies or other related programs.
Additional Requirements:
• Current Standard First aid with CPR C and AED – Expiry after September 2026.
• Class 5 Driver's License.
• Successful applicants must produce a Driver’s Abstract at time of hire.
• Successful candidates must provide a Criminal Record Check.
• Successful candidates must complete WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Information System) course.
Assets to the role include the following:
• Knowledge of Provincial Parks Legislation.
• Conflict Management/Conflict Resolution experience.
• Front Facing Customer Service experience.
• Public Communication experience.
• Outdoor skills certifications.
• Knowledge of Alberta flora and fauna.
• Knowledge of Indigenous culture.
• Incident Command Systems familiarity (ICS).
• Valid Chainsaw Certification.
• Valid ATV/UTV Certification.

Notes
Park Rangers often need to manage challenging or complex visitor interactions and may provide support during an emergency or incident, which at times can include exposure to stressors or even traumatic events. Applicants should be prepared for these challenges and have the ability to maintain composure and sound judgment under pressure. Work Term: This is a seasonal wage opportunity with most positions starting in late April and ending early September. Some locations may offer extensions.
Hours of work: Employees will work a 36.25-hour work week. Days of the week will depend on the placement, but staff can expect to work most weekends and some evenings.
Staff Housing: Most work locations have on-site shared staff housing options available for rent. Pets are not permitted inside most residences.
Interviews: Will be scheduled for the end of January and until the middle of February.
• The interviews will be competency-based, including both behavioral and technical questions.
• Each interview will be conducted by two interviewers speaking with one candidate, either in-person or virtually.
• In-person interviews will be held in Lethbridge and Edmonton at prearranged venues.
• Applicants currently residing North of the 55 parallel, Out of Province or Out of Country will be offered a virtual interview via Microsoft Teams.
