Assisted Living and Social Services provides support for seniors, families, and communities, and help Albertans access disability services, financial support, services for the homeless, Continuing Care and other social-based programs. The Ministry supports Albertans through a person-centered, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families.

Michener – Red Deer
Michener Services provides licensed supportive living in the community of Red Deer, offering person-centered care for individuals with disabilities in their homes and supporting their participation in community life. Located on the south side of the Michener grounds, these homes serve residents with a wide range of medical, behavioral, and mobility needs. Supports include 24-hour residential assistance with daily living, nursing consultation and assistance, support from the Residential Supervisors Office and First Response Team. Michener Services also promotes community inclusion through individualized planning and operates a fleet of passenger and wheelchair-accessible vans to support transportation needs.

Graduated Supports - Calgary 
Graduated Supports is grounded in person-centered values and philosophy, fostering environments that enhance the spirit, mind, and body of individuals with developmental disabilities. Graduated Supports provides 24-hour care to adults and seniors with developmental and physical disabilities. 
Graduated Supports is comprised of four Homes. Each residence is licensed to accommodate up to six individuals.

Rosecrest – Edmonton
Rosecrest Home provides 24/7 services for up to 18 children and youth who permanently reside at the facility; in addition, offers out of home respite care for up to 9 children and youth that are physically disabled with complex medical needs. In this position, you will provide a friendly, supportive, and caring environment for these vulnerable children. Under supervision of Registered Nurse, you will be involved in providing personal care, grooming, activities/outings/medical appointments, administering medications, delegated practices by regulated staff, attending appointments, preparing meals, managing resident's funds and undertaking general housekeeping responsibilities. In addition, you will be responsible for ongoing documentation that includes written communication as well as electronic communication.

Residential and Support Services – Edmonton
Residential and Support Services (RSS) is driven by person-centered values and philosophy; RSS fosters environments that enhance the spirit, mind, and body of individuals with developmental disabilities.  RSS provides 24-hour care to adults and seniors with developmental and physical disabilities. RSS Services is comprised of eight Community Homes including one respite home. The community residences are located throughout the city of Edmonton and are licensed to accommodate up to seven individuals

Role Responsibilities

We are seeking compassionate Health Care Aides. Working in a 24/7 home setting, this position supports individuals living in homes to achieve optimal personal fulfillment, quality of life, and community inclusion.

The role assists people with intellectual disabilities, and sometimes other complex needs, to meet their interests and daily needs; contribute to the operation of their home; build and maintain relationships; participate in community and recreational activities; and promote health and well-being.

The position respects each person’s individuality and treats all with dignity. It reports to the Home Coordinator/Supervisor and follows the Individual’s Support Plans, implementing activities, behavioural strategies, and special initiatives unique to each resident, while working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities
•    Provide respectful, person-centred personal care (ADLs) and support individuals to communicate needs, choices, and preferences.
•    Assist with medications and treatments within Health Care Aide scope, follow care plans/dietary plans, and respond to medical concerns/emergencies while escalating to clinical leadership as required.
•    Implement and contribute to Individual Service Plans and positive behavioural supports; promote community inclusion through appointments, activities, visits, and volunteer opportunities.
•    Support safe, well-run home operations (meals, housekeeping, laundry, shopping/budgets, equipment needs) and participate in OH&S and licensing-related safety practices.
•    Complete accurate documentation and reporting (shift notes, incident/adverse event/medication error reports).

Qualifications

Minimum Requirement Standards:

High school diploma and one year of experience working in group living, residential care, or related care setting.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:  1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets
•    Health Care Aide certification is required. Transitional practice permits will not be accepted. 
•    Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g. nursing, Health Care Aide)
•    Experience working with individuals with disabilities or vulnerable populations.
•    Current, up-to-date Canadian First Aid Certification is highly recommended 
•    Experience with personal care and mobility assistance (e.g. lifts, wheelchairs, transfers)
•    Experience administering medications
•    Basic computer skills and ability to work rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends)

Notes

•    Hours of work are 38.75 hours weekly.
•    Location: Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer, AB
•    This competition will be used to fill 23 positions across multiple locations, including:
o    Calgary: 1 Permanent position and 3 Wage positions
o    Edmonton: 6 Wage positions 
o    Red Deer: 13 Wage positions

•    These positions involve shift work and will require lifting and moving of individuals and equipment.
•    The successful candidate(s) must be able to work all shifts including days, afternoons, awake overnights, weekends and called in on short notice if needed. 
•    This role requires that you have a valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
•    Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada. A current work visa is required.
•    Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening including Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (for all listed locations) and Intervention Record Check (for Edmonton).
