Role Responsibilities
Are you passionate about road safety, public service, and infrastructure excellence? TEC is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Contract Inspector (MCI) to support highway operations in the Stony Plain District. In this vital role, you’ll help keep Alberta’s roads safe and reliable while protecting the province’s transportation investments. This is your chance to directly impact how communities connect and thrive.
As an MCI, you’ll work closely with the Operations Engineer to deliver highway maintenance and operations for Contract Maintenance Area 509. You’ll help plan and monitor work, manage budgets, inspect roads and bridges, and ensure maintenance meets provincial standards. You’ll be part of a team that prioritizes safety, performance, and collaboration across multiple stakeholders.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing and supporting the highway maintenance contract to ensure safety, service, and quality standards
- Inspecting roads, bridges, and maintenance work to spot hazards and ensure compliance
- Preparing budgets, maintenance plans, and issuing work orders to keep operations on track
- Monitoring contractor performance, reviewing progress, and authorizing payments
- Investigating incidents, public concerns, and infrastructure issues, and taking action as needed
- Reviewing environmental plans and making sure work aligns with sustainability goals
- Building strong working relationships with contractors, municipalities, Indigenous communities, and residents
- Contributing to long-term plans and recommending changes to improve maintenance practices
- Supporting capital project planning and infrastructure upgrades
- Assessing materials, managing audits, and helping ensure work meets all technical specifications

Qualifications
Required:
- A related two-year diploma (e.g., Civil Engineering Technology) and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience in highway maintenance. Equivalencies may be considered.
- A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent
- Extensive experience in project planning, work scheduling, and managing work within budget and contract guidelines
Preferred:
- Experience in contract administration and managing service provider compliance
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Registered or eligible for C.E.T. membership with the Association of Science & Engineering Technology (ASET)
Equivalencies are:
- A related university degree and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience; or a minimum of nine (9) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Additional Position Details:
- This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
- Location: Provincial Building, 4709 44 Ave, Stony Plain, AB T7Z 1N4
- Traveling will consist of 50-75% of the work schedule.
