The Ministry of Children and Family Services funds programs and services to support vulnerable children, youth, families, and individuals to live safely and succeed in Alberta. This includes providing services and resources to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect and effectively address harm that has placed them in need of intervention.
Mentoring and support services are available to youth transitioning into healthy, productive adults. The ministry also invests in community-based groups that support prevention and early intervention services such as Family Resource Networks, youth emergency shelters as well as programs that raise awareness and help respond to family violence, sexual violence, and abuse.

Role Responsibilities
If you are ready for a new adventure where you will lead casework practice and a team that strives for the pursuit of excellence in providing services to children, youth, and families. Step forward and start your journey in the North Region as a Child Intervention Supervisor.
As a Child Intervention Supervisor on the Metis Settlement team, you will support the alignment of casework practice by following the direction and working towards the operational goals of the Ministry of Children and Family Services. Your dynamic leadership will demonstrate your talents and enthusiasm to coach, mentor and guide your team within the child intervention practice framework, signs of safety, as well as Intake and Safety Phase Workflow while working collaboratively with Metis families and community stakeholders.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:
- Sound practice and the ability to prioritize multiple projects and assignments that decisions support the safety for children, youth, and families.
- Well-developed interpersonal communication skills that enhance your ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated collaboration with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities by reflecting the calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, An Act Respecting First Nation, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families while ensuring compliance with Child and Youth Family Enhancement Act.
- Exceptional team building skills that maintain and enhance strong and effective teams who embrace change.
- The ability to empower a team and provide direction and support for inclusive practices, build strength in the delivery of services in accordance with the accepted practices and within the guidelines of legislation, regulations, policy, and procedures.
- Build staff capacity to support critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills and apply a trauma-informed practice lens.
- The ability to engage a team by setting individual and unit goals by providing ongoing case consultation and practice supervision.
- Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.
- The Child Intervention Practitioner competencies with consistency at an advanced level of proficiency, according to the Child Intervention Practice Framework Principles, to provide practice supervision to CI staff.
- Engaging in and fostering active listening, creating an atmosphere of respect and positive problem solving.

Qualifications
Requirements: Bachelor of Social Work or Social Work Diploma and 3 years of related experience.
The successful candidate must be Delegated Category 7 under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act in Alberta and must have the related skills, abilities, knowledge and experience to be delegated. Additionally, there is an expectation for this position to provide on-call/afterhours services on a regular basis as part of their delegated duties under the CYFEA.
Equivalencies:
- Master of Social Work and 2 years of related experience; OR
- a related university degree and 5 years related experience; OR
- a related diploma and 6 years related experience; OR
- a related certificate and 7 years related experience.
Related university degree includes: Bachelor of Child Studies/Child & Youth Care, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc. Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development, Bachelor of Indigenous Studies.
Related diploma includes: Addictions/Counseling Diploma, Child and Youth Care Diploma, Human Services Diploma and Criminal Justice Diploma.
Related experience includes: Case management and planning in a child intervention setting; crisis intervention and protection work; supporting foster and kinship care programs; family preservation and family support; counseling youth and families; knowledge of community connections and socially inclusive environments; as well as experience and understanding of Indigenous peoples, various cultures, community connections, and socially inclusive environments.
Assets:
- Sound understanding of child intervention legislation, policy, practice, and workflow.
- Knowledge and ability to draw upon an Act Respecting First Nation, Metis and Inuit Children, Youth and Families and how it relates to intervention practice.
- Actively engage with First Nations and Metis communities, cultural traditions and practices, and awareness of protocols and customs.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with Indigenous communities and DFNA partners.
- Experience managing a caseload with minimal supervision.

Role Requirements:
- This position will provide on-call/after-hours services on a regular basis as part of their delegated duties under the CYFEA.
- Current or previously Delegated Category 7 under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act in Alberta.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have completed the Foundations, and Relationship and Culture pathways in the Ministry’s ICUF.
- Travel will be required in this role; therefore, final candidates for this position will be asked to provide a current 5-year commercial driver’s abstract. Candidates may also be required to use their own vehicle when government fleet vehicles are not available. Appropriate insurance is required.
- Successful candidate will require a clear Intervention Record Check (IRC) + Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check (CRC VS) to be considered for the role.

- As per the Health Professions Act, successful applicants must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) to be eligible for this position, if:
- They have a degree in social work from any university in North America that is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) or the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); or they have graduated from an approved social work diploma program in Alberta.
- They have, within the last five years, been a registered, certified, or licensed social worker in another province or with a member of the Association of Social Work Boards.
