Role Responsibilities
The Apprenticeship Delivery Services Unit is the program delivery arm of Alberta's apprenticeship and industry training system, and is organized into multiple offices, each responsible for a geographic service area.
The ADS Officer Area Supervisor is responsible for providing direction to staff on apprenticeship or qualification program delivery, the interpretation of legislation and policy, and the handling of sensitive and/or political matters; apprenticeship promotion programs; liaisons with local colleges, or ensures their regional office has a liaison, and monitors liaison activities, with local colleges; analyzing and troubleshooting issues; resolving client complaints; and making client-related decisions that achieve win-win outcomes. The ADS Officer Area Supervisor reports to the Associate Regional Director, and operates with a high degree of independence. Within the bounds of program policy and processes; legislation and regulations; provincial Apprenticeship Delivery Services standards; and branch goals, this position is expected to make decisions and achieve required results for program delivery and operational functions within the service area.
In your role as a AIT Officer Area Supervisor, you will:
- Plan and monitor team workflow in accordance with business and operational plans, making adjustments as needed to meet operational goals and standards.
- Design, implement, and monitor staff performance process as suits the supervisor's style of management, ensuring regional office staff performance targets will be met by performance cycle end.
- Complete office staff time reporting and expense management to be approved by Expense Officer.
- Provide or facilitate staff training and coaching to support the delivery of AIT programs and accommodate client needs.
- Ensure that all financial transactions, purchasing transactions, and cash handling by the local Apprenticeship Delivery Services office are in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all examination materials are secure at all times while in storage or in transit.
- Supervise regular inventory in accordance with ADS policy.
- Provide interpretation of legislation to other government agencies, clients and the public to aid the resolution of compliance issues.
- Advise and support staff on the handling of complex and/or sensitive enforcement issues, and intervene with employers and contractors on difficult and/or contentious cases of non-compliance.
- Ensure that invigilation of exams in the office, training institutes or other locations is carried out effectively and in line with established processes and standards.
- Supervise and track compliance issues through to resolution, and integrate lessons learned into future practice.

Qualifications
Journeyperson level certification and 6 years related experience at the Journeyperson level; or
Alberta Occupational Certificate and 9 years related experience;
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of apprenticeship program delivery, legislation, policy, and operational standards.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, monitor team workflow, support performance, and provide coaching and training.
- Ability to analyze complex operational, client service, and compliance issues and make sound decisions within established frameworks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships, resolve concerns, and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organization and prioritization skills to manage competing priorities, sensitive matters, and service delivery requirements.
Assets:
- Post-secondary education in a related field or a suitable equivalent.
- Knowledge of Government of Alberta and departmental priorities related to apprenticeship and industry training.
- Experience with project management, policy, process, program development, implementation, or change management.
- Ability to develop documents, tools, and presentations for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining resiliency in ambiguous or changing environments.
