Role Responsibilities

We are looking for a dedicated administrative professional with experience and a passion for logistics to join our team!

Reporting to the Wildfire Technologist, the Logistics Coordinator’s primary role is to manage the logistics function by providing technical assistance to the Forest Area Duty Officer and directing the seasonal logistic support staff.

This position of high obligation requires critical decision-making skills, the ability to work effectively under pressure, and communication between management levels and internal and external resources. Through exceptional organizational skills, the Logistics Coordinator efficiently coordinates, processes and tracks requests for equipment, services and workforce as directed by the Duty Officer on time. The Logistics Coordinator provides supporting documents to the Alberta Wildfire Coordinating Centre (AWCC) to import and export resources to and from other provinces. The Coordinator maintains in-depth knowledge of Wildfire Standard Operating Procedures, Business Rules, and related contracts. The Coordinator assists in recruiting, supervising, training and auditing seasonal logistic support staff and seasonal date entry staff within the Forest Area. This position audits appropriate wildfire logistics decision systems and invoices of resources hired before submitting them to the administration for processing payment.

This position will also have the opportunity to cross-train and cover dispatcher duties during the off-season. The Coordinator will also assist the local warehouse in the off-season and to aid with administrative workload and other requirements at the local Forest Area as needed.

Qualifications

The minimum requirements for this role is high school diploma plus three (3) years of related experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook is required. 

The incumbent will be required to take and pass a Logistics Course, Wildfire Dispatch Course, Basic Aircraft Management, ICS 100 and ICS 200. 

Additional requirements:

  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass the required physical fitness test.
  • Ability to work overtime and alternate work shifts to ensure continuous coverage of the logistics desk in the Forest Area.
  • Provide current driver’s abstract upon hiring.
  • Provide a valid defensive driving certificate upon hiring.
  • Provide current Standard First Aid with CPR certificate.
  • Availability for export in a logistics role, for a period averaging 14 to 18 days, to another forest area or wildfire incident.


Assets include:

  • Proficiency in applicable decision support systems, including Fire Information Resource System (FIRES), Equipment, Aviation & Fuel Resource Management, Dispatch Program, CAS Program, and IMIS.
  • Supervisory experience or experience with leading, coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Possession of Aeronautical Radio Operators Certificate, Defensive Driving, WHIMIS, TDG Air and Ground and Standard First Aid.

Notes

This position is full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday. However, during times of high fire hazard, longer hours and weekends may require to be worked.

  • Travel within the area and throughout the province will be required as part of your responsibilities to coordinate with Ministry staff and colleagues, other government departments, clients, and other external stakeholders.
  • This position may require final candidates to undergo a security clearance.
