The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) division within the Ministry of Technology and Innovation (TI) leads the development of the next-generation of digital public services for the GoA. DDD partners with other departments to deliver products, platforms and services that are better, faster and easier, through modern user-centered agile processes. DDD offers potential candidates a unique opportunity to work on meaningful challenges that transform government and positively impact Albertans.  


The Platforms branch within DDD is accountable for supporting ministry programs through the planning, development, delivery and operations of user-centered common platform services. The branch builds and develops common platforms and data services that enable product teams to deliver working software that meets the needs of their users. 

Role Responsibilities

The Platforms branch is looking for an Issues Coordinator. This position reports directly to the Director of Platform Operations.

The responsibilities of these role include:

Issues Management Coordination

  • Communicating regularly with branch leaders and division representatives to identify and prioritize emerging and sensitive issues.
  • Coordinating analysis of issues and determination of an appropriate strategy for resolution, taking into consideration past processes and information as well as new facts and potential impacts.
  • Completing and synthesizing background research as needed to contribute to the branch's issues management.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with branch, division, and department staff to foster information sharing and to gather materials for issue resolution so that branch leadership has appropriate information to make strategic and policy decisions.


​​​​​Correspondence Support Services

  • Determining immediate course of action for incoming Action Requests with direction from the DDD Assistant Deputy Minister’s Office, Executive Director or Directors.
  • Coordinating responses to high-priority and complex requests for information, including Action Requests (ARs).
  • Reviewing and editing integrated branch responses, identifying potential issues or conflicts with intended strategic direction and outcomes, and resolving inconsistencies or outstanding issues prior to the submission for approval of the Executive Director.


Branch Coordination, Advisory, and Support Services

  • Creating and maintaining effective processes and accountability structures to facilitate branch communication and decision making.
  • Participating in Branch Leadership Team meetings and tracking action items to ensure they are completed in a coordinated and effective manner.
  • Conducting meetings and initiating conversations with management and other staff as needed to discuss potential issues, priorities, and projects to be captured in reporting.


Coordination of Branch Working Group and Representation

  • Tracking the Branch's engagement on department, cross-ministry or cross-jurisdictional committees and working groups.
  • Supporting the senior branch leaders assigned to working group and committees to ensure action items and information requests are owned and addressed, including escalations, relationships, and reporting.
  • Developing relationships and communication with other divisions to ensure a coordinated approach to information dissemination and action requests for the department and GoA.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University degree in a related field such as Communications, Business, Computer Science or Public Administration with at least two (2) years of progressively related experience.
  • 2 years progressively responsible related experience in strategic planning, policy, research, and a basic understanding of the information management and technology sector.
  • Experience with Action Request Tracking System (ARTS) or a similar government correspondence tracking system.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to convey complex information in a clear/concise manner.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate emergent requests, actions, and initiatives with tight timelines, minimal direction, and from multiple business areas.
  • General awareness of stakeholder perspectives and the political environment.


Equivalencies:
Directly related education or experience considered based on:

  • A related two-year diploma in Communications or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution and four (4) years related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and five (5) years related experience.


Assets:

  • Strong knowledge of government goals, strategies, priorities, and initiatives, particularly as they relate to the mandate of Information Management Technology (IMT) and the division. 
  • Expertise in integrating information into a coherent picture of broad matters and recognize how they relate to or connect to organizational strategies and objectives. 
  • Experience with project management and change management practices.

Term of Employment: Permanent, Full-time position    

Hours of Work: 36.25 hrs/week - Monday to Friday
 
Location: Remote across Alberta

This position is eligible for remote work. You must reside in Alberta to work remotely.

Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
