The Government of Alberta (GoA) is seeking a strategic Information Security Officer 3 (ISO3) to lead high-impact cybersecurity awareness initiatives, protect critical government information, and foster collaboration across public and private partners through CyberAlberta.

As an Information Security Officer 3 (ISO3), reporting to the Manager, Stakeholder Engagement and Delivery, you will manage and execute comprehensive cybersecurity awareness programs for both the GoA’s Cybersecurity Program and CyberAlberta. You will play a pivotal role in cultivating a strong security culture among employees, contractors, third parties, and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with leadership expectations and measurable improvements in cybersecurity awareness and behavior.

The ISO3 is the senior working-level position and may lead a team, major initiative, or project related to information security.

Responsibilities:
Some of your responsibilities in this position will include provision of Information Security Services such as: 

  • Advisory and Planning services.
  • Security Awareness.
  • Track Effectiveness of Cybersecurity Awareness Program.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and outreach.
  • Leadership:
    • Mentor and coach junior staff.
    • May act as a service team leader and supervisor for direct reports on the service team.
    • May manage and coordinate projects or sets of activities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience in IT leadership/supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of information security principles and best practices.
  • Experience in Information Technology Security or related role with an emphasis in Threat Intelligence, Threat Hunting, Vulnerability Management, Security Risk Management, and Social Engineering.
  • Security certification such as CISSP, SANS, CEH, or equivalent.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work under pressure to meet short timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and drive alignment across diverse stakeholders and technical domains.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in conveying information to diverse audiences, including technical and executive stakeholders.
    Proficiency in leveraging AI tools to automate insights, personalize engagement, and improve processes.
  • Hands-on experience using cybersecurity tools and technologies to support information security functions.
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerBI and producing graphical representations of data.
  • Experience with presentation software (Powerpoint) and creating infographics.
  • Experience with AI-powered cybersecurity tools and techniques.

Equivalencies:

  • A related two-year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution and a minimum of six (6) years related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and a minimum of seven (7) years related experience.

Assets:

  • Experience conducting research using open sources.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and how adversaries utilize them to facilitate intrusions.
  • Functional in one or more programming language (e.g., Python).
  • Expertise in effectively communicating technical information to diverse audiences – both technical and non-technical – in a clear and concise manner.
  • Experience translating complex information into clear, high-quality briefings for executive management.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft PowerBI and the Azure suite of products, including Microsoft Sentinel and Microsoft 365 Defender.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset.

This position is eligible for remote work. You must reside in Alberta to work remotely.

A written assessment may be required as part of the interview process.

Depending on the project, on-call rotation and overtime may be required.
