Role Responsibilities

As an Information Security Officer 2 (ISO2), you will play a key role in safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the Government of Alberta’s information and operational technology assets. Using AI-driven tools, you will identify, assess, monitor, detect, investigate, and respond to threats and incidents impacting IT and OT systems, while supporting the GoA’s Information Security Management Directives (ISMD) and contributing to CyberAlberta collaboration.
This position is the full working level of the classification and may involve mentoring junior staff, coordinating projects, and implementing security controls under the guidance of senior cybersecurity professionals.
Responsibilities:
Some of your responsibilities in this position will include but are not limited to:
Supporting Information Security Programs:
- Mentor and coach junior staff to foster professional growth and build security expertise.
- Coordinate assigned projects and activities to achieve security objectives across IT and OT environments.
- Assist in delivering the GoA Information Security Program, providing subject matter expertise and operational support.
- Advise stakeholders on security matters to support risk-informed decisions.
- Participate in developing and implementing security policies and controls under senior guidance.
Responding to Security Incidents:
- Monitor and manage incident tickets for IT and OT environments using AI-driven tools.
- Participate in incident response efforts, contributing to containment, investigation, and remediation.
- Provide updates and assist in preparing incident reports for transparency and accountability.
Driving Exposure Management and Zero Trust Implementation:
- Assess cybersecurity risks across IT and OT assets using AI-powered tools.
- Detect and address vulnerabilities using management tools and threat intelligence.
- Support campaigns to improve cybersecurity posture and track KPIs.
- Assist in implementing Zero Trust principles and report exposure trends to management.
Programming and Data Analytics:
- Experience in a variety of programming languages, such as Python or JavaScript.
- Experience in a variety of data analytics tools and languages, such as Microsoft Fabric and KQL.

Qualifications
Required:
- A university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of combined experience in information systems security, IT infrastructure planning, and/or IT architecture.
Equivalencies:
- A Related two-year diploma from a recognized post secondary institution and a minimum of four (4) years related experience; or
- A related one-year certificate from a recognized post secondary institution and minimum of five (5) years related experience.
Assets:
- Security certification (CISSP, CISM, CISA, CEH, GPEN, or equivalent) or working toward certification is expected.
- Experience with AI-powered cybersecurity tools and techniques.

Term of Employment: Permanent full-time position.
Hours of Work: 36.25hrs/ week – Monday to Friday
Location: Remote across Alberta
This position is eligible for remote work. You must reside in Alberta to work remotely.
A written assessment may be required as part of the interview process.
Final candidates will be required to undergo enhanced security screening.
Depending on the project, on-call rotation and overtime may be required.
