As an Information Security Officer 2 (ISO2) within the Cybersecurity division, you will be at the forefront of protecting the Government of Alberta’s critical information assets. Your work will directly strengthen Alberta’s cybersecurity resilience—advancing the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems that support millions of Albertans.
Reporting to the Manager, Stakeholder Engagement and Delivery, you will lead impactful cybersecurity awareness initiatives across the GoA and CyberAlberta. You will champion a security-first culture among employees, contractors, and partners—translating complex security concepts into clear, actionable guidance that drives meaningful behavioural change. As a full working-level professional, you will collaborate across ministries and sectors, influence enterprise practices, and mentor junior team members while delivering measurable results.
Responsibilities:
Some of your responsibilities in this position will include provision of Information Security Services such as:
- Leadership, advice, and planning: Provide trusted security guidance to stakeholders, mentor team members, and contribute expertise to enterprise security initiatives and program delivery.
- Information Security Awareness and Training: Design and deliver engaging cybersecurity awareness programs, campaigns, and communications that strengthen security behaviours and promote continuous improvement.
- Threat Intelligence and Risk Management: Monitor the evolving threat landscape, support risk mitigation strategies, and ensure timely documentation and communication of cybersecurity risks.
- IMT Disaster Recovery: Support disaster recovery planning and testing, contributing to incident response readiness and organizational resilience.

Qualifications
Required:
- Keen interest in human behavior.
- A university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in cybersecurity, information security, or a related training and/or communications role.
- Experience in applying cybersecurity principles, including defending against social engineering tactics, phishing attacks, and other human-targeted threats.
- Experience in Information Technology or a training-related role with an emphasis in cybersecurity (e.g. Awareness, Threat Intelligence, Security Risk Management ).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to communicate technical information to diverse audiences – both technical and non-technical – in a clear and concise manner.
- Cybersecurity expertise: Experience with cybersecurity principles, including social engineering tactics, phishing attacks, and other human-targeted threats.
- Tools: Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), phishing simulation platforms, and security awareness tools like KnowBe4, Proofpoint, or similar.
- Metrics and Reporting: Ability to measure the effectiveness of awareness campaigns and report on metrics like click rates, training completion rates, and behavior improvements.
Equivalencies:
- A related two-year diploma from a recognized post secondary institution and a minimum of four (4) years related experience; or
- A related one-year certificate from a recognized post secondary institution and minimum of five (5) years related experience.
Assets:
- Experience with phishing simulation platforms, and security awareness tools.
- Ability to measure the effectiveness of awareness campaigns and derive meaningful metrics (e.g. Click rate, click delay, open-to-click time, etc.).
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI and the Azure suite of products, including Microsoft Sentinel and Microsoft 365 Defender.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, high-quality briefings for executive management.
- Experience with utilizing AI tools.
- Experience with AI-powered cybersecurity tools and techniques.
- Experience using cybersecurity tools and technologies to support information security functions/systems such as:
- Information Security awareness and training
- Experienceonducting research using open sources.
- Knowledge of network protocols and how adversaries utilize them to facilitate intrusions.
- Experience attributing malicious activity to known threat actors and uncovering their motivations, affiliations, and any further context.
- Functional in one or more programming language (e.g., Python) .
- Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to deal with large amounts of information in a limited time.
- Security certification such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CCAP, Security+, or SANS SSAP.

This position is eligible for remote work. You must reside in Alberta to work remotely.
