The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) division within the Ministry of Technology and Innovation (TI) leads the development of the next generation of digital public services for the GoA. DDD partners with other departments to deliver products, platforms and services that are better, faster and easier, through modern user-centered agile processes. DDD offers potential candidates a unique opportunity to work on meaningful challenges that transform government and positively impact Albertans.   

The Software branch within DDD is accountable for the excellence of the technical delivery of software. The branch oversees the technical practices of Architecture, CloudOps, DevOps, Quality Assurance (QA), and Software Development., The branch also enables product and platform teams by providing access to underlying infrastructure such as capability in architecture, cloud services, and common tooling and patterns.   
 

Role Responsibilities

The Software Delivery Branch is looking for a Cloud Application Analyst and multiple Cloud Operations Analysts. These positions will report to the Manager of Cloud Operations.

The responsibilities for these roles include:

Cloud Applications Analyst

Cloud Platform Strategy and Practice 

  • Contributing to the development of cloud processes and standard operating procedures related to new and transforming digital services. 
  • Researching new technologies and platform solutions, including cost analysis, to remain apprised of new and emerging capabilities.
  • Working with architecture, software development, DevOps and QA to develop common best practices to implement and support cloud services.
  • Contributing to the implementation of pilots on emerging technologies and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Evaluating pilots and proofs of concept and communicating the viability and suitability to stakeholders and branch leadership.
  • Providing recommendations to senior leaders to improve governance standards and practices. 


Cloud Application Development and Operations

  • Implementing best practices to build, pilot, and implement digital services within operational processes. 
  • Providing analysis and assistance regarding cloud computing to product and platform teams.
  • Collaborating with other divisions, application/solution design teams, infrastructure request coordinators, developers, AMS vendors, and other technology subject matter experts. 
  • Working with the Cloud Platforms Lead as well as product and platform teams, to implement cloud platform solutions that will meet client needs.
  • Participating in project meetings with teams, vendors, and partners. 
  • Providing technical analysis to teams in the investigation of systemic issues. 
  • Identifying issues, and risks, and proactively escalating them through appropriate project team and/or management structures for clarification on direction.


Supporting Leadership

  • Providing valuable insights and recommendations on performance measures and analytics practices.
  • Collaborating with internal teams, units, and branches to ensure seamless coordination and integration of functions.
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with departmental representatives, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Representing the branch and division on departmental working groups and committees with diverse mandates.
  • Developing content for reports, responses to queries, and other relevant documentation.

Cloud Operations Analyst 

Cloud Strategy and Planning

  • Identifying the best practices of cloud architecture to support applications.
  • Collaborating with engineering and development product teams to evaluate and identify optimal cloud solutions.
  • Developing and maintaining a disaster recovery plan related to cloud services and systems.


Cloud Application Development and Operations

  • Developing and preparing cloud assets for product teams.
  • Assisting in deployment and monitoring of cloud infrastructures.
  • Designing, managing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure.
  • Planning, designing, and delivering support for cloud computing applications and services.
  • Assisting in responding to and resolving application and security events.
  • Coaching and mentoring team members and technical staff on their assigned project tasks regarding the appropriate application of cloud-based services and functions. 


Supporting Leadership

  • Providing insight and recommendations on issues, opportunities, and challenges in performance measures and analytics practices and culture.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University degree in a related field such as Computer Science or Information Technology plus a minimum of four (4) years of related progressively responsible experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience supporting cloud services in an organization in AWS or Azure Cloud environments.
  • One (1) year of experience leading teams in product-centric, agile delivery environment.
  • Software architecture experience – either as a software architect or related role or technical team lead
  • Experience reviewing, contributing, and drafting procedures, standards and/or best practice.
     

Equivalencies:
A related two-year diploma and a minimum of eight (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of nine (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of ten (8) years of related experience.
