If you're passionate about infrastructure and motivated by work that keeps communities connected and safe, this is your opportunity to make a tangible impact. As a Bridge Technologist in the Government of Alberta, you’ll play a pivotal role in the oversight and upkeep of the province’s bridge infrastructure—bridging the gap between technical execution and public service. From emergency repairs to large-scale rehabilitation, your expertise ensures that Alberta’s bridges remain strong, safe, and sustainable for years to come.
As a Bridge Technologist, you’ll support the Bridge Manager in delivering a wide range of bridge maintenance and rehabilitation programs. Your decisions and leadership will directly influence project outcomes, public safety, and long-term asset integrity.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Managing the annual bridge maintenance program by reviewing inspections, prioritizing repairs, and ensuring cost-effective project delivery.
- Responding to urgent infrastructure issues with timely, practical repair solutions that minimize disruptions to the public.
- Engaging and overseeing engineering consultants through all stages of bridge maintenance and inspection activities.
- Defining project scopes, preparing technical documentation, and developing site-specific repair plans.
- Monitoring contractors’ performance and compliance with technical specifications, safety protocols, and environmental controls.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders—including regulatory agencies, municipalities, and utility companies—to ensure seamless project execution.
- Assisting in the delivery of broader bridge construction and rehabilitation programs across the region.
- Providing technical advice, design input, and field information to support municipal bridge projects and utility installations.
This position requires travel throughout Alberta—typically around 25% of the work schedule. It offers a varied work environment that includes both field and office-based activities, ideal for individuals who enjoy a flexible and hands-on approach to their work.
