$2,323.38 to $3,003.04 bi-weekly ($60,640 - $78,379/year) 

Correctional Service Worker 2:  
$2,529.25 to $3,270.46 bi-weekly ($66,103 - $85,359/year)

The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime, including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives.

Role Responsibilities

As a Correctional Service Worker, you will be responsible for case management, and may interview, observe, and place inmates into a safe and appropriate environment. You will also be required to resolve day to day issues, respond to questions/complaints, provide guidance, and distribute resources. You will need to be resourceful and creative in your problem solving.  Duties may include coordination and facilitation of Centre programs, keeping accurate records, classification, and placement of inmates, and liaising with both internal and external service providers as well as daily living unit routines. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and an ability to work independently are necessary.  


Superior ability to assess and interview inmates, an in depth understanding of the different cultures and programs on each unit as well as excellent decision-making abilities are necessary for managing inmates with a variety of safety and security issues. Computer proficiency and knowledge of center policies and procedures is required.

Qualifications

Requirements:


Correctional Service Worker 1: Two-year diploma in a related field plus two years of related experience, or equivalent as described: 

  • A related one year one-year certificate and three years of directly related experience.  
  • Directly related education on the basis of one year of education for one year of experience; or one year of experience for one year of education.  


Correctional Service Worker 2: University graduation in a related field plus 2 years related experience; or equivalent as described:  

  • Two-year diploma in a related field plus 4 years related experience; OR 
  • Completion of the in-service Criminal Justice Certificate plus 5 years related experience. 


Special Requirements:  

  • Must be physically able to perform position duties.  
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.  

Prior experience in case management or as a Correctional Peace Officer will be considered an asset.

There is one full-time permanent position available.  
 

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week (full-time).

The Peace River Correctional Centre is located at 224044 HWY 684 Peace River, Alberta  T8S 1T4. There is no public transportation to the Centre, so reliable private transportation is required; free parking is available. The Centre is a non-smoking environment. 
 
Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate.
