Role Responsibilities
Alberta Transportation has exciting opportunities for a Professional Engineering Technologist to join the Regional teams. The Construction and Maintenance Division is looking for detailed oriented, highly motivated and independent individual to perform various bridge related tasks including, but not limited to inspections, assessments, maintenance and rehabilitation needs, planning, reviewing reports as well as construction functions within their team. The positions will be working with a group that is committed to growing and developing the skills of all its members while delivering construction and maintenance infrastructure projects in a fast-paced environment.
Reporting to the Bridge Manager, the Bridge Technologist will assist with the day-to-day administration, delivery and monitoring of the bridge construction, rehabilitation and maintenance programs within the Region. The incumbent will engage with consultants and contractors to perform inspections, construction, rehabilitation and maintenance in a timely and cost effective manner on various bridge structures in the Region. The purpose of the role is to provide a safe and well-maintained bridge infrastructure to the traveling public.
The main responsibilities for the Bridge Technologist are (but not limited to):
- Overseeing the delivery of the Bridge Maintenance Program on the Provincial Highways.
- Engaging Engineering Consultants to provide supervision and technical answers for a variety of maintenance projects.
- Performing contract administration.
- Assisting in the delivery of other bridge programs.
- Providing assistance to external stakeholders.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- Diploma in Civil Tech Engineering supplemented by 6 years of progressively responsible experience in bridge maintenance and construction engineering.
- Good understanding of the Alberta Transportation’s Bridge Inspection and Maintenance Program.
- Solid knowledge of repair materials including wood, concrete, steel, adhesives, coatings and sealers as well as their application.
- A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent.
Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets:
- Strong knowledge and understanding of construction contract documents.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Must be able to multi-task, set priorities, plan and co-ordinate resources to meet timelines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Notes
One permanent position is available, with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
Traveling will consist of 25-50% if the work schedule.
