Role

Alberta Transportation and Economic Standards is currently looking for a Bridge Technologist to join their team in Peace River, AB.  If you are looking for a challenging yet exciting opportunity, apply now!
 

Reporting to the Bridge Manager, the Bridge Technologist is responsible for assisting in the development, delivery and monitoring of the bridge construction, rehabilitation and maintenance programs within the Peace River Region.  The incumbent engages with consultants and contractors in a timely and cost-effective manner on various bridge structures. The purpose of this position is to provide safe and well-maintained bridge infrastructure to the travelling public.
 

The main responsibilities of the Bridge Technologist are (but not limited to):

  • Oversee the delivery of the Bridge Maintenance Program on the Provincial Highways
  • Engage Engineering Consultants to provide supervision and technical answers for a variety of maintenance projects
  • Contract administration
  • Assist in the delivery of other Regional Bridge Programs
  • Provide assistance to external stakeholders

 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Diploma in Engineering supplemented by 6 years of progressively responsible experience in heavy civil construction (bridge, tunnel, road), contract management and technical understanding of rehabilitation and construction of various types of structures
    • Certified Engineering Technologist certification or eligibility
  • Good working knowledge of the Bridge Inspection Program and relevant Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors specifications
  • Strong knowledge on application of various repair materials including wood, concrete, steel, adhesives, coatings and sealers
     

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
     

 Desired:

  • Excellent skills in word processing, structural analysis hydrology analysis, geo-technical analysis, drafting, surveying and people management
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of construction contract documents
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good organizational and time management skills.  Must be able to multi-task, set priorities, and plan and co-ordinate resources to meet timelines.  
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Salary

$2,654.45 to $3,485.57 bi-weekly ($69,281 - $90,973/year).
