As an Assessor, you will prepare and defend property assessments for designated industrial properties, ensuring compliance with legislation and supporting Alberta’s municipal tax system. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary team that thrives on knowledge-sharing and innovation. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, adaptability, and the ability to build collaborative relationships with stakeholders across government and industry.

Your key responsibilities include:
•    Preparing designated industrial property assessments and contributing to the provincial assessment roll.
•    Conducting field inspections and verifying property inventory for accuracy.
•    Analyzing complex data to support valuation models and assessment processes.
•    Collaborating with municipalities, property owners, and industry representatives to maintain effective relationships.
•    Defending assessments before the Land and Property Rights Tribunal as part of a team, including acting as an expert witness when required.
•    Developing and reviewing Requests for Information (RFI) to gather essential property data.
•    Preparing reports, briefing notes, and impact analyses to support policy and operational decisions.

This position requires regular travel throughout Alberta. It offers a dynamic work environment, ideal for individuals who enjoy a flexible and hands-on approach to their work.

Qualifications

Requirements:
•    Any of the following designations: Accredited Municipal Assessor of Alberta (AMAA); Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI); Certified Assessment Evaluator (CAE); Member Institute of Municipal Assessors (MIMA) .
•    A related university degree and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience. Equivalencies will be considered. 
•    Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent, and ability to travel within Alberta.
•    Experience in the preparation, delivery, and defense of property assessments.


Equivalencies: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; 

 

Assets:

•    A minimum of five years of experience in the preparation, delivery and defence of industrial property assessments using the accepted approaches to value property and appropriate mass appraisal techniques.
•    Subject Matter Expert on oil and gas field equipment and facilities, or other heavy industrial equipment
•    In depth knowledge of reading and interpreting process and instrumentation drawings for the determination of DI property assessments.
•    Comprehensive working knowledge of the Municipal Government Act and related legislations
•    Analytic and logical reasoning skills
•    Knowledge about the administration of a municipality
•    Strong awareness of provincial policies and legal precedents

Term of Employment: Permanent full-time position

Hours of Work:  36.25 hours per week/ Monday to Friday


Location: Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Vermilion, Wood Buffalo, Red Deer, Morinville, Lloydminster, Hanna, Edmonton, Calgary and other potential regional offices

Relocation assistance will be considered.
