Role Responsibilities

We are looking for an innovative problem solver that loves to rise up to a challenge. If you have a strong background in infrastructure management, an interest in enabling Albertans to access and safely enjoy facilities in provincial parks and recreation areas, and thrive in a collaborative work environment, then this opportunity to join the Alberta Parks team is for you!  

As the Regional Infrastructure Management Coordinator, you and your team ensure the long-term functionality, ongoing accessibility, and safe operation of infrastructure, facilities, and equipment located in numerous geographically dispersed provincial parks and recreation areas within the Alberta Parks South Region. You will work closely and collaboratively with the site-based teams responsible for the day-to-day operation of these provincial parks and recreation areas as well as a variety of contractors. Your main responsibilities will include:

Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Scheduling and performing technical inspections for facilities, inclusive of buildings, roads, utilities, and other supporting infrastructure (i.e. playgrounds) to develop condition ratings for assets to assist in the development of a prioritization matrix.
  • Working closely with various internal and external stakeholders to develop and support the implementation of preventative maintenance programming for capital assets (facilities and equipment) to ensure that assets remain functional and safe and achieve projected life expectancy.
  • Supporting the Lifecycle and Capital Maintenance and Renewal programming by Utilizing technical inspection data to develop lifecycle and Capital Maintenance and Renewal plans.
  • Providing expert advice, technical assistance and in-person support to site-based maintenance staff and other internal stakeholders across the region to ensure timely and effective asset management, facility preventative maintenance programming, completion of special projects and providing input into a variety of infrastructure related planning initiatives.
  • Working with licensed water and wastewater treatment operators to ensure that all Regulations and Codes of Practice are met.
  • Working with licensed water and wastewater treatment operators to prioritize future capital construction upgrade requests.
  • Coordinating major repairs in response to asset breakdowns and failures.
  • Identifying capital maintenance and renewal priorities.
  • Liaising and collaborating with project managers managing various capital development and/or renewal projects throughout the Region.
  • Developing contract specifications and tender documents.
  • Awarding and managing contracts.

Qualifications

Education and Experience required:

  • Two-year technical diploma in a related field plus four years related experience.
  • Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. 


Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Current Standard First Aid certificate.


Assets:  

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work with diverse staff and contractors.
  • Ability to operate light equipment and various tools.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to potable water and wastewater discharge.\
  • Knowledge of Preventative Maintenance Programming.
  • Good working knowledge of applicable building codes, and federal and provincial Acts and Regulations related to buildings, water and wastewater.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation, policy, and guidelines.
  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computers, mobile devices, and apps.
  • Knowledge of contracting process and ability to supervise contractors.

Terms of Employment:

  • This is a full-time permanent position.
  • The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week.
  • Valid Class-5 (or equivalent) Driver’s Licence is required.
