Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager, Regional Employer Supports (RES) within the Employer and Program Services Branch, you will provide service to Lethbridge and regional communities including, Taber, Pincher Creek, Fort Macleod and Claresholm.
As the region’s Workforce Consultant (WFC), you will build a regional network of stakeholders including employers, employer associations, business networks, chambers of commerce, municipalities, regional workforce development organizations and internal Government of Alberta collaborators in the region to:
- Empower stakeholders to identify and address individual and regional workforce development challenges, such as barriers to employee attraction and retention.
- Share information about employer support programs and services available to stakeholders, such as grants or wage subsidies, and assist stakeholders in accessing them.
- Collect and share regional labour market information (LMI) both externally with regional stakeholders and networks and internally with GOA colleagues.
To be successful, you must build and maintain positive relationships, linkages, and partnerships with and between stakeholders in the region. In addition, you will often interact with staff and project teams from other government departments and will be asked to provide information, insight, and advice about the region’s unique needs or challenges to inform government policies and programs. The WFC supports employers and stakeholders in identifying and addressing workforce development needs, priorities, and challenges. This role actively contributes to the ability of Alberta's employers to attract and retain a skilled, resilient, and productive workforce.
The RES team is made up of WFCs located in geographic regions across Alberta. This means you will be responsible to work with limited on-site management and for planning and managing your own day-to-day work providing service in the region while also working toward achieving internal outcomes. As the team representative in the region, you will be required to assess requests from stakeholders against the scope of a WFC and to manage stakeholder expectations on an ongoing basis. The needs and demands of regional labor markets can change quickly, as can the priorities of the Department and Government. The WFC is required to be agile while responding to shifts in priorities and to communicate the impact of such changes clearly and effectively to stakeholders.
