Role Responsibilities

Do you have a vision of building strong communities where children and youth are valued, nurtured, and cared for? 
 

As a Program Supervisor in the Provincial Campus Based Care (PCBC) branch, you will report to the Associate Director or Manager of the Centre. In this role, the Program Supervisor is responsible for the overall implementation of one or more programs and it’s service delivery within trauma informed, campus based Intensive treatment, Secure Services or Outreach program units The Program Supervisor communicates and implements the flow of information between Management and frontline staff and ensures policies and procedures are followed according to Ministry guidelines.


You provide direct supervision and leadership to the Child and Youth Care Counsellors regarding best practices to ensure the current developmental and well-being needs, of moderate to extremely emotionally and behaviorally challenged youth, are met in a collaborative team approach.
 

The Program Supervisor will also be instrumental with the operational duties of the unit they oversee, such as: 
 

  • Intake: Manages all requests and referrals for Intensive Treatment placement within the Agency and communicates with the Placement Coordination Unit the availability for all beds. 
  • Community: Acts as a program consultant to regional/provincial staff in areas of legislation, policy, casework, and issues specific to the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement service delivery.
  • Coaching: Complete performance appraisals and may implement performance improvement plans in consultation with Management and Human Resources.
  • Planning: ensures effective fiscal responsibility for the Centre is practiced by frontline staff which may include time management approvals and expenditures, and may procure or advise Management regarding resource contracts. 
     

To be successful in this position, you must demonstrate strong leadership and critical thinking skills. You will have related theoretical knowledge of childcare practice; assessment, treatment, and behavioral management, as well you will draw upon your exceptional written and verbal communication skills to be effective.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have

  • A Bachelor of Child and Youth Care or Diploma of Child and Youth Care and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalency as described below.
  • You must have Valid Driver’s License; First Aid Certificate and Suicide Prevention Certificate
     

Equivalencies:

  • A related university degree (BA Social Work, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc. Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development) and 5 years of related experience; OR
  • A related diploma (Addictions/Counselling, Social Work, Human Services, Criminal Justice) and 5 years of related experience
     

Related Experience Includes:

  • Case management and planning in a child intervention setting; crisis intervention and protection work; foster and kinship care; family preservation and family support; counseling youth and families; knowledge of community connections and socially inclusive environments; as well as experience and understanding of Indigenous peoples, various cultures, community connections, and socially inclusive environments. 
  • Program Supervisors must also demonstrate effective and concise written communication skills, using professional and inclusive vocabulary. Reports and written notes may be shared with senior leadership in the Ministry. 

 
Preferred Experience

  • Related experience in a campus-based care setting, working with indigenous populations, working in youth homes, teacher, educational assistant, crisis intervention, family counselling, youth counselling, youth correction work, childcare program development (Teacher, Educational Assistant, Psychologist), trauma informed practice and behavioral therapy.  
  • High cultural competence and direct Indigenous related experience. 
  • Supervisory experience

Hours of Work:

  • Shift Rotation 6 days on 3 days off, 38.75 hours per week average (full-time).
  • May be required at times to provide after-hours support.

Role Requirements

  • Occasional travel will be required in the Program Supervisor role; therefore, final candidates for this position will be asked to provide a current 5-year commercial driver’s abstract if it is not already on file. Employees may also be required to use their own vehicle when government fleet vehicles are not available. Appropriate insurance is required.
  • As per the Health Professions Act, successful applicants must: be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) to be eligible for this position, if:  
    • They have a degree in social work from any university in North America that is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) or the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); or They have graduated from an approved social work diploma program in Alberta.
    • They have, within the last five years, been a registered, certified, or licensed social worker in another province or with a member of the Association of Social Work Boards.
