As a Junior Bridge Engineer, you’ll support the Senior Bridge Engineers in the design and construction of bridge rehabilitation and new construction projects. You’ll assist with consultant coordination, site inspections, and design reviews - ensuring technically sound, cost-effective solutions. This entry-level role is designed as a launchpad for your engineering career, offering progressive responsibility and a clear path toward senior roles within the department.
Your key responsibilities include:
• Supporting project scoping, consultant selection, and coordination for bridge construction and rehabilitation projects
• Assisting with engineering design reviews and ensuring construction aligns with department standards and specifications
• Conducting site inspections and monitoring progress to ensure safety, quality, and contract compliance
• Helping resolve technical and stakeholder issues during construction to keep projects moving forward
• Reviewing consultant submissions, permits, and design documents to ensure quality, value, and constructability
• Tracking costs, schedules, and changes to ensure projects stay on time and within budget
• Contributing to long-term bridge capital and maintenance planning
• Collaborating with department staff, consultants, and stakeholders to align project outcomes with department goals
• Gaining exposure to other sections - Infrastructure, Construction, and Operations - to develop a well-rounded understanding of regional transportation delivery

Qualifications
Required:
• A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or currently in the fourth year with transportation or structural experience)
• No prior experience is required
• Eligible for Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) status with APEGA
• A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent
Preferred:
• One to two years of related experience in transportation or civil engineering
• Basic knowledge of structural and/or hydrotechnical engineering principles
• Understanding of roadway, bridge, and culvert design and construction practices
• Experience working with consultants or contractors to resolve project issues, especially where negotiation was required
• Familiarity with engineering software used for structural design and drafting

Additional Position Details:
• This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
• Location: Administration Building, 909 3 Ave N, Lethbridge, AB
• Traveling will consist of 25-50% of the work schedule.
• Please note this position would be eligible to participate in the Work from Home Hybrid once the incumbent is fully on-boarded, trained and performing satisfactorily in the role.
