The Lakeland district is looking for a motivated and hardworking individuals with janitorial and grounds keeping skills to fill the Parks Cabin Worker position at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park.

Role
Under the direction of the Cabin Facility Team Lead, the Parks Cabin Worker position includes a combination of duties. This position's primary purpose is performing public-facing services which includes both janitorial and grounds keeping tasks to ensure a safe, high quality visitor experience and maximize the life span of park facilities.
Other duties may include working in the registration booth to complete daily operational tasks, registering guests and creating a positive experience for visitors by providing useful and timely information around park activities, regulations, and nearby amenities.
This position’s responsibilities include:
Janitorial/Maintenance Operations
• Cleaning and maintaining washrooms, comfort cabins, community facility and tipis
• General cleaning including but not limited to: dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, window washing, and sanitizing and disinfecting all surfaces/appliances.
• General landscaping, grass cutting, garbage collection and litter pickup
• Operating light equipment (power tools, lawnmowers, trimmers, off-highways vehicles chainsaws, other specialty equipment as required, and as trained)
• Performing basic building maintenance tasks and painting
• Responding to public concerns and complaints regarding facility maintenance issues.
Booth Operations
• Learning and adhering to all pertinent policies, procedures and protocols including campground rules and regulations and GOA directives
• Daily opening and closing tasks, ensuring booth locations are kept clean, organized, secure, and safe at all times.
• Retail sales of product and services which may include: firewood, concession items, ice and ice cream (where applicable)
• Completing daily cash-outs
Customer Service & Communication
• Providing exceptional customer service as the first point of contact for day users and overnight guests
• Assisting and working closely with other parks program streams as required
• Gaining familiarity with the natural history of the area to answer inquiries from visitors
Please note this position is seasonal, has a term of employment from May 2023 to September 2023, and is located at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Some high school education
Other requirements that are mandatory:
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
• Drivers Abstract and Defensive driving (by commencement)
• Availability to work evenings, weekends and holiday shifts
Preference will be given candidates with related experience to this position
Assets:
• Standard First Aid / CPR-C
• Retail experience and familiarity with point of sales machines, and cash handling
• Familiarity with campground operations, park regulations, campground etiquette and surrounding Park amenities.
• A passion for engaging customers and providing professional, informative, and diplomatic service to a variety of people
• Ability to operate light equipment and various tools
• WHMIS knowledge
• English language proficiency
• Computer knowledge such as with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Publisher) and Reserve.Alberta.Parks.ca
• Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Positive and inclusive attitude

Salary
$19.84 – $23.86 per hour
• Weekend shifts are eligible for a premium of $3.25 per hour
• Evening shifts are eligible for a premium of $2.75 per hour
Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.
• 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
• 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
Notes
• Hours of Work: 40 hour work weeks with 8 hour shifts. This position will be required to work on evenings, weekends and holidays throughout the duration of the summer.
This posting will be used to fill up to 7 Parks Cabin Worker positions.

Additional Information:
• This is a seasonal wage opportunity starting at the beginning of May and going until September long weekend.
