Role Responsibilities

Wildfire Management Branch is seeking a highly skilled Wildfire Training Specialist to join our team at the Hinton Training Centre. Reporting to a Sr. Wildfire Specialist, you will have the opportunity to coach and mentor the next generation of wildland firefighters while demonstrating your expertise in the fields of Adult Education and Wildfire Management.

Responsibilities:

  • Promoting an inclusive and safe work environment that values and respects all individuals.
  • Crafting, enhancing, and conducting Wildfire Training programs.
  • Constantly refining training programs and delivery techniques.
  • Managing contracts to procure external training services.
  • Resolving conflicts and offering guidance to students and staff.
  • Collaborating with external clients, stakeholders, and partners.

Qualifications

Minimum requirement for this role is related two-year diploma in Forestry or Natural Sciences or Natural resources plus 4 years of progressive responsibility and directly related experience.

 

A combined total of six (6) years related education and/or experience.

 

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year education.
     

A related degree or diploma could include studies in: Education, Natural Resource Management, Emergency Management, Forestry, Health and Safety, Curriculum Design, Project Management, or other associated with the main job duties of wildfire management, training, and adult education.

 

Experience in wildfire response/wildfire management is required.

 

Assets:

  • Experience with Adult Learning development and/or training delivery
  • Wildfire certifications at the specialist, Unit Lead or Type 2 level (or higher)
  • Experience leading groups or teams
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills

Notes

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity located in Hinton. This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM - 4:30 PM, 36.25 hours a week.
