William A. Switzer Provincial Park is looking for a highly motivated, well-organized, responsible Maintenance Service Worker for the summer operating season. This individual will be part of a team accountable for providing regular maintenance and operational duties that support the day-to-day operation of William A. Switzer campgrounds, day use areas, facilities and trail systems.


The majority of work for this position is completed outdoors and requires daily handling of chemicals, use of hand and power tools, and driving of utility terrain vehicles (UTVs). This job can be physically demanding and also requires basic understanding of computer operations for minor administrative tasks such as time entry.


Responsibilities
As part of the maintenance team, you strive to maintain Alberta Parks’ high standards to ensure quality customer service and safety is provided at all times. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•    Performing routine custodial and cleaning duties of park facilities
•    Lawn maintenance and minor repairs of facilities
•    Responding to in-person requests for information on area amenities and park conditions, as needed
•    Performing routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment
•    Completing trail and signage projects
•    Reporting all maintenance concerns accordingly
•    Being familiar with and practicing all pertinent occupational health & safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols; and with the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols.
•    Completing administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense claims, commencement and termination paperwork, and online courses

Qualifications

Education: 
•    Some high school education

 

Additional Requirements: 
•    Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
•    Alignment with the required behavioral competencies of the role (see below)

 

 Assets:
•    Experience with hand and power tools: Good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance and safety of small equipment
•    Experience working in custodial, landscaping, or similar positions
•    Chainsaw certification

Salary

$19.84 to $23.86 per hour

Shift premiums if applicable:
•    $3.25 per hour for  weekends and holidays
•    $2.75 per hour for evenings 


Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.

•    5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
•    6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

Notes

Terms of Employment

  • Fulfill seasonal contract (anticipated late April/early May – September/October)
  • Evening and weekend work will be required. A premium is paid for these shifts
  • Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent will be required
  • Final Candidates may be required to provide an acceptable 5yr Commercial Drivers Abstract. (Will be reimbursed)
  • Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate
  • Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy
  • These positions will require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Training sessions at the beginning of employment are mandatory (late April/early May)


Notes

  • Interviews will take place in mid-February
  • Those selected for an interview will need to supply three work related (preferred) or character references 
  • Hours of employment are up to 40 hours per week, with shifts scheduled up to 8 hours
  • Shared rental accommodations or trailer pad may be available
  • A boot allowance is available to staff to purchase CSA certified steel-toed boots
  • Some uniform components are provided
  • All required personal protective equipment is provided
