Role Responsibilities

The District Maintenance Team Lead is responsible for overseeing maintenance operations across assigned Alberta Parks facilities, infrastructure, and grounds to ensure a safe, high quality experience for park visitors in the Hinton District. Reporting to the Area Manager, this role leads a team of maintenance staff, coordinates day to day operations, ensures timely completion of maintenance activities, and upholds required safety, regulatory, and service standards. The position is accountable for planning and implementing preventative maintenance programs, coordinating utility system operations, managing equipment and fleet servicing, administering maintenance budgets, completion of all required regulatory inspections and overseeing contracted services. The role also provides technical input for lifecycle maintenance planning, facility upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

 

Key Responsibilities / Duties

  • Leading a team of district maintenance staff to ensure all work is performed correctly, efficiently, and safely
  • Administer a district maintenance budget while adhering to all policies and procedures.
  • Lead the maintenance of parks grounds and facilities in a wide geographic area in order to provide a safe, high quality visitor experience and maximize the life span of facilities
  • Ensure that all site and facility serviceability inspections are completed and corrections are made timely
  • Coordinate the hazardous tree removal program in park facility areas, in conjunction with other appropriate specialist staff or contractors.
  • Coordinate and support the operation of various light and heavy-duty equipment (chainsaw, OHV, tractor loaders, graders, excavators, groomers etc.).
  • Ensure the operation of various utility systems (as applicable) in accordance with relevant standards and regulations
  • Ensure ongoing and safe provision of drinking water and waste water removal and treatment, and regulations are adhered to
  • Planning and managing the maintenance equipment and fleet vehicles in order to ensure effective maintenance program operation
  • Managing assigned service contracts to ensure effective and efficient service delivery and adherence to all contact terms and conditions
  • Assisting with planning and delivery of life-cycle maintenance and replacement projects
  • Completing the district level annual operational maintenance plan, including work plans for each Park
  • Providing site-level expertise regarding visitor needs and common complaints/concerns.
  • Administer the District occupational health and safety program for maintenance staff

Qualifications

Two-year technical diploma in a related field (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanics, engineering technology, building or project management) plus two years maintenance related experience; or equivalent as described below

 

Equivalencies will be considered.

 

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year education.

 

Note: A valid Class 5 driver`s license is required.

 

Required: 

  • Experience in supervision
  • Ability to perform tasks related to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems. 
  • Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, and a variety of tools. 
  • Valid First Aid certification. 
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation, policy, and guidelines
  • WHMIS certification. 
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.

 

Assets:

  • Ability to lead, supervise and train maintenance staff and work effectively with a diverse team.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and collaboration abilities. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Training or experience in project management. 
  • Certification in small water or wastewater systems. 
  • Experience with potable water and wastewater system operations.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to potable water and wastewater.
  • Experience supervising contractors and managing contracted work. 
  • Experience with procurement and contracting processes. 
  • Experience supporting emergency response or emergency management procedures. 
  • Ability to use computers, mobile devices, and digital applications relevant to maintenance operations.
  • Familiarity with Alberta Parks campground operations, rules and regulations. 
  • Experience with inventory management for a maintenance program

This is a full-time permanent opportunity in Hinton.
