Role
Reporting directly to the Senior Area Forester, this position assists in ensuring the sustainability of the forest resource in the High Level Forest Area.
The Forest Management Operations Specialist will play a key role in leading and conducting the monitoring of forest operations and silvicultural activities and to ensure linkages are maintained to the approved Forest Management Plans, appropriate Tenure documents (Forest Management Agreements, Quotas, and Permits), applicable legislation, policy and departmental directives through the provincial Forest Operations Monitoring Program (FOMP).
As a Forest Management Operations Specialist, the responsibilities include;
- Forest management planning
- Forest Operations Monitoring Program (FOM & SAM)
- Reforestation Monitoring – Reforestation Standards of Alberta (RSA)
- Timber Production Monitoring (TMP)
- Mentoring, Support & Training
- Wildfire Management
Qualifications
The minimum requirements for this role are a Diploma in Forest Technology plus 4 years directly related experience or equivalent. As well as a membership or eligibility for membership in the Alberta Association of Forest Management Professionals.
Successful applicants will have knowledge of relevant provincial legislation.
Preference will be given to those who have;
- Experience and understanding of Forest Management planning, operations, land use management, compliance, auditing, performance management
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution skills
- A strong understanding of forest science and management and how they have influenced policy
- Field work practical skills (travel alone and remote work, compass work, mapping, scaling, etc.)
- A thorough knowledge of relevant computer software applications including ARIS, TPRS, GLIMPs, ArcGIS, and other GIS Applications
Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Salary
$2,537.00 to $3,263.92 bi-weekly ($66,215 to $85,188 annually)

This role is a permanent, full-time position with the standard work hours as 36.25, Monday to Friday.
