The Ministry of Children and Family Services funds programs and services to support vulnerable children, youth, families, and individuals to live safely and succeed in Alberta. This includes providing services and resources to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect, and effectively address harm that has placed them in need of intervention. Mentoring and support services are available to youth transitioning into healthy, productive adults. The ministry also invests in community-based groups that support prevention and early intervention services such as Family Resource Networks, youth emergency shelters as well as programs that raise awareness and help respond to family violence, sexual violence, and abuse.

Role Responsibilities

Are you ready to embark on a new adventure where you'll lead casework practice and guide a dedicated team committed to excellence in serving children, youth, and families? Take the next step in your career and begin your journey in the North Region as a Child Intervention Supervisor.

 

As a Child Intervention Supervisor, you will support the alignment of casework practice by following the direction and working toward the operational goals of the Ministry of Children and Family Services. Your dynamic leadership will showcase your ability to coach, mentor, and guide your team within the Child Intervention Practice Framework, Signs of Safety approach, and the Intake and Safety Phase Workflow.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

•    Sound practice and the ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and assignments, ensuring that decisions consistently support the safety and well-
      being of children, youth, and families.
•    Strong interpersonal communication skills that support the development and maintenance of collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders. 
•    A commitment to working collaboratively with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities, including sharing knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation
     Commission’s Calls to Action.
•    Exceptional team-building skills that foster strong, adaptable teams who embrace change.
•    The ability to empower staff by providing direction and support for inclusive practices, strengthening service delivery in alignment with legislation,
      regulations, policy, and procedures.
•    A focus on building staff capacity in critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving, while applying a trauma-informed practice lens.
•    The ability to engage a team by setting individual and unit goals, and providing ongoing case consultation and practice supervision.
•    Leadership skills that include decision-making, coaching, teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.
•    Advanced proficiency in Child Intervention Practitioner competencies, aligned with the Child Intervention Practice Framework Principles, to effectively
      supervise CI staff.

Qualifications

Requirements:
⦁    Bachelor of Social Work or Social Work Diploma and 2 years related experience.

 

Equivalencies :
⦁    Master of Social Work and 1 year related experience;
⦁    OR related university degree and 4 years related experience;
⦁    OR related diploma and 5 years related experience;
⦁    OR related certificate and 6 years related experience.

Related university degree can include Bachelor of Child Studies/Child & Youth Care, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc. Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development, Law Degree.
Related diploma can include Addictions/Counseling Diploma, Child and Youth Care Diploma, Human Services Diploma and Criminal Justice Diploma.

Related experience includes

•    Experience working with children, youth and families is essential.
•    Knowledge of community resources is essential. 
•    Experience working with Microsoft office is required. 
•    Working knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act is essential.
•    Demonstrated understanding of the Child Intervention Practice Framework and Signs of Safety is required.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•    Knowledge and experience working with Indigenous communities is required. 

Assets:

•    Preference will be given to those candidates who have been Delegated Category 7 within the last 24 months under the Child, Youth and Family
      Enhancement Act in Alberta.
•    Previous supervisory and leadership experience would be an asset.
•    Experience working with a multi-cultural and/or multi-language-based caseload would be beneficial. 

Preference will be given to those candidates who have completed the Foundations, and Relationship and Culture pathways in the Ministry’s ICUF.  Recognizing that there will be exceptional situations, managers and supervisors who have not completed the training, will be given 12 months from their respective effective dates or from their hiring date thereafter to initiate/complete training. Application for equivalencies based on previous training will be assessed individually.

The ideal candidates will have a strong working knowledge of the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act and other related legislations (e.g. PSECA), as well as possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong critical thinking skills and previous supervisory experience.

Role Requirements

•    As per the Health Professions Act, successful applicants must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) to be eligible for this
      position if they possess a Bachelor,  Diploma or Masters in Social Work. For more information, visit http://www.acsw.ab.ca/.
•    Travel will be required in this role; therefore, final candidates for this position will be asked to provide a current 5-year commercial driver’s abstract.
      Candidates may also be required to use their own vehicle when government fleet vehicles are not available. Appropriate insurance is required.
•    Successful candidate will require a clear Intervention Record Check (IRC) + Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check (CRC VS) to be considered for
      the role.
