Role Responsibilities
Build, Enhance, and Support the Systems That Keep Government Services Running !

This role offers the opportunity to work on foundational and mission-critical systems that support program delivery across the Government of Alberta. If you enjoy hands-on application development, maintenance, and continuous improvement in a collaborative, service-oriented environment, this position provides meaningful and rewarding work.
This position provides application development, maintenance, and enhancement support for complex custom systems within Client Service Management, Office of the Corporate Chief Information Officer and Telecommunications. Working in both primary and backup support roles, you will support critical systems that enable government programs and services.
Operating within government, departmental, and divisional IT policies and standards, you will independently undertake application maintenance and enhancement activities and contribute as part of a team under the guidance of an experienced Systems Analyst or Application Delivery Manager. The systems supported are foundational and business-critical to GoA service delivery. You will also provide technical consulting to team members and client staff, delivering customer-focused services including system design, development, testing, implementation, ongoing maintenance, enhancements, and user training as required.
Key Responsibilities
Some of the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Perform system analysis and application support and maintenance.
- Apply accepted methods, standards, and best practices in application development and maintenance.
- Modify and enhance systems developed across multiple platforms and technologies.
- Communicate effectively with clients and technical teams to understand and address system and program requirements.
- Identify and leverage opportunities to improve applications using new and evolving technologies
- Perform maintenance and support activities on servers.
- Support database configuration and operational activities.

As technology continues to evolve, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an increasingly important component of modern application development and support. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience using AI-driven tools or technologies, as well as those who demonstrate a strong aptitude and willingness to learn and apply AI. This may include using AI to support code development, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and system optimization. A forward-thinking mindset and curiosity about leveraging AI to improve efficiency, reliability, and service delivery will be key to success in this role.

Qualifications
Required:
- Two (2) year diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
Equivalencies: Equivalencies are considered:
- A related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and one year of related experience.
- An industry-recognized certification from a credible source, such as ISC2, may be used in place of the 1-year certificate.
Assets:
- Experience and/or working knowledge of application design principles, change management practices, and formal application development lifecycle methodologies
- Experience and /or strong understanding of programming concepts, techniques, logic, and database design.
- Experience working with modern and legacy software development tools, technologies, and frameworks, including but not limited to:
- Development Frameworks & Languages: Visual Studio, C#, Visual Basic .NET, .NET/.NET Core, MVC, ASP.NET, Entity Framework, Classic ASP, ColdFusion (2023).
- Web Technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS, Bootstrap, jQuery, React, Node.js, Vue.js.
- Databases & Reporting: MS SQL Server (SSIS, SSRS), Oracle Database and Oracle Fusion, PostgreSQL, Crystal Reports, Power BI.
- Integration & Interfaces: Web APIs, JSON, REST, WCF services, WebSocket communication.
- Identity & Security: Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions using SAML and integration with identity providers (e.g., Azure Active Directory).
- Cloud & Productivity Tools: Azure cloud services and Microsoft Office/Office 365 integration.
- Ability to support and maintain legacy platforms that may no longer be widely used
- Strong knowledge of business operations, including complex business functions, application-related processes and rules, organizational structure and lines of authority, and general departmental business processes.
- Detailed knowledge of the data and its relationships so that appropriate database scans and customized reports can be generated for senior management.
- Experience in working with customers in a support capacity.
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
