Role Responsibilities

The Oil Sands Discovery Centre is seeking qualified applicants for Seasonal Interpreter positions. These are full-time temporary positions from May 4 through September 7, 2026 at the Oil Sands Discovery Centre.

Working within a small team environment, the successful candidates will provide high quality interpretive and visitor services to the general public. This includes presenting scheduled interpretive programs such as films and demonstrations, leading guided tours, delivering education programs and children’s activities, planning and delivering children’s science day camps, providing general oil sands information to visitors, and answering visitor questions.

Other duties include the collection of admission fees and visitor statistics. This position requires weekend work and occasional evening work.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or greater
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Confident, creative presentation skills and/or desire to acquire skills in a supportive setting
  • Experience providing high-quality customer service to the general public
  • Experience working with children ages 4-12 in an organized program setting
  • Ability to work within a small team environment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work weekends and occasional evenings
  • Basic computer skills


Assets:  

  • First Aid certification
  • Education or experience in science, tourism, recreation, education, interpretation, museums, drama, or child care
  • Experience in program development
  • Ability to speak a second language

Equivalency: Directly related experience considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education.

Notes

These are temporary positions from May 4 through September 7, 2026. Hours of work are 36.25 hours weekly.

These positions require availability for weekday, weekends and holidays.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal record check.

Successful candidates will be required to have their own transportation for getting to and from work.
