Fort McMurray District is a part of the North Region. One of the larger communities of the area is Fort McMurray and Anzac, Alberta. This district includes: Gregoire Lake Provincial Park, Hangingstone Provincial Recreation Area, Crow Lake Provincial Recreation Area and Maqua Lake Provincial Recreation Area.
The Fort McMurray district is looking for a motivated, courteous and hardworking individuals with exceptional customer service skills to fill these Maintenance Service Worker positions and provide assistance at Gregoire Lake Provincial Park.

Role
Are you looking for an opportunity to work with your hands outdoors in one of Alberta’s beautiful parks? Then please consider this opportunity!
The Maintenance Service Worker Lead performs public-facing park maintenance work intended to ensure park facilities are safe and clean at all times and supports the provision of a high-quality visitor experience to park visitors by Alberta Parks.
In addition, this position supports the Park Maintenance Supervisor by assisting with supervision of seasonal park maintenance workers. This includes providing support with training seasonal staff and assisting with supervision of projects and staff. Core duties include performing park maintenance activities, and operating light or medium sized equipment.
This position’s responsibilities include:
- Maintaining park grounds and facilities to established standards in order to provide a safe, high quality visitor experience and maximize the life span of facilities
- Ensuring the maintenance equipment and fleet vehicles are maintained to required standards in order to ensure safe and efficient operation
- Assisting with onboarding, training and supervision of seasonal park maintenance staff
- Performing other maintenance related tasks such as contract observation, procurement and vendor relations
- Ensuring that all activities are conducted in a safe manner, adhering to all applicable worksite health and safety requirements
The successful candidates must have excellent communication and organizational skills, be able to work both independently and as part of a team, and show initiative in taking on and completing new and challenging assignments within set deadlines.
Please note this position is seasonal, has a term of employment from May 2023 to September 2023, and is located at Gregoire Lake Provincial Park.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Some high school education
- 1 year of related experience
Other Requirements:
- Valid class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent)
- A clean driver’s abstract
- Valid current Standard First Aid
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and holiday shifts
Assets:
- Good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance and safety of small and large equipment, hand tools and power tools
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to lead and follow OH&S procedures and protocols
- WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) training
- Carpentry, plumbing and/or electrical experience
- Experience with water sampling
- Computer skills
- Chainsaw certification
- OHV certification
- Skid Steer certification
- Experience with Garbage and 2-ton dump trucks
- Local knowledge of parks in the Fort McMurray Area

Salary
$23.03 to $27.92 per hour
- Weekend shifts are eligible for a premium of $3.25 per hour
- Evening shifts are eligible for a premium of $2.75 per hour
Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.
- 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
- 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
Wage employees may be entitled to the Fort McMurray Allowance for $478.18 bi-weekly.
Notes
Hours of Work: 40 hour work weeks with 8 hour shifts. This position will be required to work on evenings, weekends and holidays throughout the duration of the summer.
This posting will be used to fill up to 3 Maintenance Service Worker 2 positions.

Additional Information:
- This is a seasonal wage opportunity starting at the beginning of May and going until September long weekend.
