Role Responsibilities

The cashier will be the first point of contact for visitors to the Oil Sands Discovery Centre. Duties include greeting and welcoming all guests, processing admissions payments, answering inquiries in person and by telephone, providing basic visitor orientations to the Discovery Centre as well as to Fort McMurray and the surrounding area, and, and most importantly - providing outstanding customer service!

 

  • Your agility will enable you to change directions when appropriate and identify potential solutions to sudden issues.
  • Building collaborative environments is essential to this position as you will need to work with your teammates and supervisor to provide the best experience possible for visitors.
  • Your ability to use your creative problem solving will be essential to find solutions for visitors when faced with issues and also find innovative ways to create a better visitor experience.

Qualifications

This position requires a high school diploma and experience in reception desk handling and/or retail services with a history of excellent customer service. 

 

Other requirements include:

Good communication skills, passion and genuine interest in working with people, the ability to work independently and as a member of a team, and the willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and some holidays. 

 

Assets include :
Basic knowledge of Fort McMurray and the oil sands industry, and proficiency in languages other than English. The successful candidate will be required to obtain standard first aid certification if they do not already have it.

Notes

Hours of work are 21.75 hours weekly.


The position’s hours of work must overlap with the Oil Sand Discovery Centre’s hours of operation, which currently include weekends and statutory holidays. Should the Discovery Centre’s hours of operation change, this position’s schedule would change accordingly. 


We currently anticipate the position hours of work being Friday-Sunday from 9:30 am to 5:15 pm.

Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening. Due to wait times to receive a completed Criminal Records Check (CRC) that includes Vulnerable Sector screening check, applicants that are invited for an interview are encouraged to request a completed CRC (level 1) that includes Vulnerable Sector screening check from their local RCMP/Police detachment prior to their interview. The CRC will only need to be provided upon request.
