Role Responsibilities

The Indigenous Health Division has multiple Program Services 3 and 4 positions available to join the team of dedicated and motivated individuals who are committed to improving the health, wellness, and quality of life for Indigenous Albertans. Our division has the privilege of focusing on health system improvements for Indigenous peoples. Your focus is supporting the development of initiatives, programs, policies, strategies, and legislation which have direct impacts on the operations and provision of health services to Indigenous Albertans. You are aware of Indigenous health-related issues and impacts of supporting Indigenous peoples, families, and communities. You have the knowledge/experience of how to achieve these results through an Indigenous lens.

You maintain the balance of technical components of research and critical analysis with strong written and verbal communication skills, synthesizing your findings into sound direction, recommendations, and/or responses to the public and other stakeholders. You demonstrate experience in creating briefing materials and presenting research findings, analyses, and recommendations to key decision makers and stakeholders. You are adept at gathering diverse forms of information and preparing written briefings and presentations for senior leadership and your written and oral presentation skills are exceptional. 

An understanding of the current issues and trends and strong political acumen are factors that demonstrate your engagement and passion for the work and the people we are serving. You have an understanding of constitutional and jurisdictional responsibilities for Indigenous health and an awareness of the impact of Indian Residential Schools, the Sixties Scoop, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, and other historical and contemporary issues that impact Indigenous peoples in Alberta.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standards Requirements

Program Services 3 Market Adjustment:
University graduation in a related field plus 2 years of related working experience, with preference given to those working in and with an Indigenous community or Indigenous-serving organization.

Equivalencies will be considered directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Program Services 4 Market Adjustment:
University graduation in a related field plus 4 years of directly related working experience with preference given to those working in and with an Indigenous community or Indigenous-serving organization.

Equivalencies will be considered directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Experience with stakeholder engagement, project management, policy development and written correspondence (reports, briefings, papers, etc.) is an asset.

This is a full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
