Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Labour Relations Policy and Legislation, the Labour Relations Senior Policy Analyst is responsible for advanced policy and project management work associated with the regular review of labour relations policy and legislation. 

 

You will be responsible for the following key activities:

 

1.     Identify issues, trends and developments in the labour relations sector. 
2.     Provide policy advice on labour relations issues and support changes to labour relations policy or legislation.  
3.    Plan and lead engagement with external stakeholders that informs labour relations policy.

Qualifications

University graduation in Public Administration, Political Science, or Labour Relations or in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below. 

Equivalency: 
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Candidates without with the required combination of years of experience and education may be considered at a lower classification and salary. 
The position requires the following skills and experience:

  • Strong research, problem-solving, and writing skills. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate. 
  • Good judgement and political acumen.  
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to manage a wide variety of projects and processes simultaneously.

 
Essential Work Experience:

  • Experience in developing and analyzing policy and/or legislation.
  • Experience in writing briefing notes, correspondence, reports and other materials for senior leadership.
  • Experience in understanding and analyzing competing interests of stakeholders.

Qualifications Continued

The following are considered assets to the position:

 

  • Knowledge of labour relations issues and relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of government decision-making and policy development process and procedures
  • Experience with public engagement processes and stakeholder management. 
  • Experience conducting strategic analyses of workplace issues, trends and events. 
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the Alberta economy.

This is a full-time position working 36.25 hours per week.

Working location is in Edmonton or Calgary.
