The Police Review Commission (PRC) is responsible for overseeing the police complaints process for all police services in Alberta and will have approximately 150 staff. The PRC will be at the forefront of leading and supporting police services through a significant change in process and philosophy.
Role Responsibilities
Are you highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in managing sensitive information? The Evidence Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting investigations by ensuring the secure and accurate management of digital and physical evidence.
Key areas that will support your success in this role include:
Evidence Management
• Review, convert, and prepare digital media (e.g., body-worn camera footage, in-car video, third-party recordings) for investigative and disclosure purposes.
• Store, organize, and secure evidence in accordance with retention schedules and security protocols.
• Maintain accurate chain-of-custody records to ensure compliance with legal and procedural standards.
• Verify completeness, classification, and labeling of evidence files.
• Maintain and update evidence tracking systems, identifying discrepancies as required.
• Participate in audits and file review activities to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Collaboration and Case Support
• Support investigators, resolution staff, and case coordinators by preparing and retrieving evidence for active files and hearings.
• Coordinate the intake and transfer of evidentiary materials across teams.
• Assist with case file preparation and organization of high-volume or sensitive materials.
• Collaborate with legal services and investigative teams on disclosure requirements and reporting.
• Present and explain technical evidence during proceedings, as required.
Systems Implementation and Continuous Improvement
• Support implementation and enhancement of digital evidence management systems.
• Provide user feedback, troubleshooting support, and identify process improvement opportunities.
• Stay current on evolving digital evidence tools and practices.
Administrative and Inventory Control
• Maintain a secure inventory of all evidence and ensure accurate documentation of intake and release.
• Coordinate shipping, receiving, and secure storage of evidence and equipment.
• Ensure proper disposal of sensitive materials in accordance with policies and legislation.
• Deliver training and guidance on evidence handling practices and systems.

Qualifications
A four-year degree in Criminology, Justice Studies, Information Management or other related fields, supplemented by experience in evidence handling, records management, or investigative support.
Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of:
• 2-year diploma with 2 year of relevant experience.
• 1 year certificate with 3 years of related experience.
Assets:
• Experience working with digital evidence (e.g., video, audio, forensic data).
• Familiarity with policing, regulatory, or investigative environments.
• Experience with evidence management systems or databases (Axon Evidence, Genetec Clearence, Magnet Forensics etc,,).
• Experience with digital multimedia processing applications (Axon Investigate, Amped FIVE, iZotope RX, Adobe Creative Suite, etc..)
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, including privacy and evidence-handling requirements.
• Experience supporting disclosure processes or legal proceedings.
• Certifications with LEVA, IACIS or ISFCE.
Technical Competencies:
• Strong organizational and file management skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Other Requirements:
• Must be able to pass and maintain a fingerprint-based criminal records check, and other clearances required to access police databases.

• Monday to Friday (8:15 am to 4:30 pm)
• Some occasional travel within the province may be required
