Role Responsibilities
Do you want to play a leadership role in building Alberta’s newest police oversight agency? Are you driven to lead investigations that strengthen accountability, public confidence, and trust in policing? If so, then we have an opportunity for you!
As the Director, Code of Conduct Investigations with the Police Review Commission (PRC), you will lead two investigative teams and the PRC’s digital evidence management unit. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will oversee investigations into police misconduct, guide investigative strategies, and provide expert advice to PRC leadership.
Key areas that will make you successful in this role:
Strategic Leadership – Build and lead investigative teams in Edmonton and Calgary, establishing priorities, driving performance, and developing capacity. Provide coaching, direction, and recruitment leadership while fostering a culture of accountability and professionalism.
Investigative Oversight – Oversee complex, sensitive, and high-profile misconduct investigations, ensuring evidence is collected, analyzed, and documented in compliance with legislation and policy. Guide staff in applying trauma-informed and culturally competent practices.
Evidence Management – Lead the PRC’s digital evidence team, ensuring proper handling, redaction, storage, and disclosure of digital records to support investigations, disciplinary hearings, FOIP requests, and litigation.
Strategic Advice – Provide expert input to executive leadership on investigative policy, frameworks, and systemic issues in policing. Influence provincial policy and represent the PRC on committees, task forces, and intergovernmental working groups.
Stakeholder Engagement – Build strong relationships with police services, associations, municipalities, Indigenous communities, and oversight partners across Canada. Promote transparent investigative practices that foster trust with complainants, subject officers, and the public.
On-Call Leadership – Participate in the PRC’s 24/7 on-call schedule to assess Level 1 incidents, determining whether they meet the threshold for investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).
This is a unique opportunity to influence the establishment of a groundbreaking police oversight agency in Alberta while managing sensitive investigations that impact communities across the province.
