Role Responsibilities
As a Digital Systems Technologist with the Alberta Sheriffs Branch, you will be at the forefront of deploying and maintaining the digital technologies that support frontline law enforcement operations across the province. Your responsibilities will include the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of critical systems such as:
• Body-worn cameras (BWC)
• In-car digital video (ICDV) systems
• Digital Evidence Management Systems (DEMS)
• E-ticketing platforms
• CCTV surveillance
• Building access control and alarm systems
You will ensure these technologies are installed and maintained to the highest standards, supporting officer safety, operational efficiency, and compliance with legal and procedural requirements.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Digital Evidence Coordinator and other technical teams to integrate systems with backend infrastructure, including Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and secure government networks. You’ll manage a variety of networking components—modems, satellite links, VPNs, and more—to ensure seamless connectivity across mobile and fixed environments.
Your duties will also include:
• Diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues.
• Coordinating with vendors for advanced technical support.
• Performing proactive maintenance and system updates to minimize downtime.
• Providing hands-on training and technical support to Sheriffs Branch personnel.
• Developing user guides and documentation to support system adoption.
• Translating complex technical systems into practical, user-friendly solutions.
You will contribute to the evolution of the Branch’s digital capabilities by researching emerging technologies, evaluating new tools, and recommending upgrades or replacements that align with operational needs. This may involve testing new hardware, piloting software solutions, and advising on system improvements.
Additional Role Considerations
This position may occasionally require travel within the province. The role also involves hands-on technical work, which may include lifting and moving equipment (up to 50 lbs.), working in confined or elevated spaces, securing and routing cables, performing hardware testing, and handling the safe disposal of electronic or hazardous materials. Candidates should be comfortable working independently and using tools in a variety of physical and technical environments.
This is a dynamic and impactful role that requires strong problem-solving skills, a deep understanding of digital systems, and a commitment to public safety. Your work will directly influence the effectiveness of law enforcement operations, the integrity of digital evidence, and the trust placed in the Sheriffs Branch by Albertans.
