Role Responsibilities

We are seeking a Paramedic Practice Specialist to provide expert knowledge and support in the development and maintenance of policies that ensure public safety and meet legislated standards. You will be responsible for offering advice and technical support to key stakeholders, including government officials, healthcare providers, and emergency services teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy Development & Public Safety: Assist in developing policies that set minimum legislated standards for public safety and ensure they are met.
  • Stakeholder Consultation: Provide expert advice to the Minister, Premier, Cabinet, MLAs, AHS, Covenant Health, professional colleges, unions, emergency department staff, physicians, municipalities, and various governmental bodies.
  • Contract Management: Manage and maintain business contracts effectively.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct literature reviews and jurisdictional scans, providing recommendations and findings through written reports and presentations.
  • Legislation & Standards Consultation: Offer consultation on proposed and existing legislation, policies, and standards, and provide interpretation of current legislation to stakeholders.
  • Innovative Strategies & Programs: Identify, evaluate, and support innovative acute care strategies, programs, and initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Consult with internal and external stakeholders to assist in program development from a ministry perspective.
  • Timely & Effective Action: Meet tight deadlines while managing a dynamic and changing workflow environment.
  • Special Projects & Representation: Provide input and representation for special projects in various ministries, divisions, and units.
  • Communication: Draft briefing notes, letters, memos, and other communication requiring subject matter expertise.
  • Continuous Competency: Maintain professional competence in paramedic practice.
  • Documentation & Manual Development: Review, update, and develop administrative forms and supporting manuals.
  • Performance Measures: Identify performance measures and indicators to ensure effective program delivery.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 
A university degree Paramedicine or Paramedics, Health Sciences, Public Health and four (4) years of related experience in a paramedic or healthcare-related role, including experience in policy development, emergency services, or public safety.  Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college as required by the Health Professions Act.

 

Equivalency: Diploma in Paramedics and six (6) years of related experience.  Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college as required by the Health Professions Act. Masters degree related to the position assignment and three (3) years of related experience. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of paramedic practice, legislation, and policies.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills for varied audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials and healthcare providers.

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week (full-time) - Monday to Friday.

 

Location: 1 in Edmonton and 1 in Calgary 

 

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary. This competition may be used to fill future roles at the same or lower classifications.

 

A written assessment may be used as part of the screening/selection process.
