Join the Government of Alberta as a Writer and Issues Coordinator in the Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services, where you will support strategic communications and issues management within the Strategic Information Management Technology Services Branch. Located in Edmonton, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact initiatives like Alberta Netcare and MyHealth Records, while ensuring effective communication and situational awareness across the Health Information Systems Division. You'll work closely with senior leadership to manage emerging issues, develop strategic briefings, and support decision-making in a fast-paced, collaborative environment focused on innovation and public service.
Role Responsibilities
As a Writer and Issues Coordinator in the Strategic Information Management Technology Services Branch of the Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services, you will play a vital role in supporting strategic communications, managing emerging issues, and ensuring timely, accurate information flow across the branch and division. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact health initiatives while working closely with senior leadership to support decision-making, project delivery, and stakeholder engagement.
- Develop correspondence, briefing notes, and presentation materials in response to action requests and divisional needs
- Create consistent messaging for internal and external communications across projects and initiatives
- Draft responses for Information Management and Technology governance groups in collaboration with branch and divisional stakeholders
- Identify and prioritize risks and challenges, recommending strategies to support successful outcomes
- Share insights from ministry-wide interactions and research best practices for implementation
- Keep leadership informed through weekly situation reports and project tracking
- Support project planning, lead initiatives, and represent the branch in meetings and committees
- Manage communication processes and ensure timely responses to inquiries and information requests
- Coordinate input from staff, departments, and stakeholders into comprehensive responses
- Ensure all written materials meet Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister, and Ministerial standards
- Provide input on branch operations, coordinate meetings, and contribute to annual goal-setting
- Track performance measures and support quarterly operational reviews
- Review Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy requests and manage internal databases and filing systems
- Monitor ministry-wide issues and recommend resolution strategies
- Track major initiatives and follow up on actions directed by the Executive Director
- Prepare weekly issue reports and quarterly metrics to inform planning and workload management.

Qualifications
Minimum Recruitment Standards
Program Services 3 Requirements:
- University graduation (Public Administration) or in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
