Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Information Specialist, this role involves regular monitoring of various information sources, coordinating updates from key personnel, and compiling internal reports on Alberta Wildfire’s operations and predictive services during wildfire season.
The primary role is to route, compile and ensure the consistency of urgent information from multiple sources, while keeping to tight timelines amidst evolving crises.
The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in communication, as well as basic information collection and data interpretation, to inform internal reporting.
This role requires a general understanding of wildfire management, prevention, and operations, along with strong skills in communication.
Work will be performed in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and guidelines set out by Forestry and Parks and the wider provincial government.
Wildfire Prevention and Operations:
• Learn to use multiple external and internal digital platforms to find required wildfire information.
• Monitor information databases and email inboxes for updates on Alberta’s wildfire response activities.
• Triage information requests and responses, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent communication with key personnel.
• Summarize fire behaviour, fire danger, and weather prediction models for internal reporting.
• Verify and cross-check information from multiple channels to ensure consistency and accuracy.
• Compile information into standardized templates under tight timelines.
• Prepare reports and internal briefings for executives and key stakeholders.
• Support provincial wildfire information team in expanded capacities as needed.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirement:
• Two-year diploma in a related field; no experience required; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency:
• Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets:
• Experienced in communications. Effective understanding of wildfire operations and wildfire science.
• Ability to translate technical or complex issues into clear and concise updates.
• Familiarity with initiatives, priorities, and messaging related to wildfire prevention and management.
• Knowledge of the government and partner agencies roles and responsibilities in emergency response.
• High level of professionalism, with the ability to prioritize tasks and handle sensitive information.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, including demonstrated abilities to collaborate and negotiate on a diverse team.

This competition is for seasonal wages positions with weekly hours up to 36.25.
What We Offer:
• Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of paid holidays and vacation leave:
o 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays,
o 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.
• Shift differential and opportunity to work overtime, evening, and weekend shifts.
