Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the SPEC Supervisor, the Training Coordinator will plan, develop, and deliver training and development initiatives that support onboarding, system changes, operational updates, and project-based training across Common Service Delivery
(CSD). The position is responsible for creating and maintaining training materials, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring all training aligns with legislation, policy, and business processes. 


You will work closely with trainers, subject matter experts, supervisors, managers, and project teams to assess training needs, create curriculum, support branch-wide change initiatives, and evaluate training effectiveness. This role requires strong planning, collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Training Strategy & Planning 

  • Develop and maintain training plans aligned with CSD priorities.
  • Conduct needs assessments and recommends targeted training solutions that are accessible and inclusive for diverse learner needs.
  • Partner with leadership to ensure training supports organizational goals and fosters a culturally competent and psychologically safe learning environment.


Training Development & Delivery

  • Design and deliver training for onboarding, system updates, and major initiatives, ensuring materials reflect diverse perspectives and support a safe learning space for all staff.
  • Create training materials such as guides, e learning modules, virtual sessions, and communications.
  • Coordinate and regularly update new staff orientation content.


Project-Based Training

  • Build and tailor training for new functionality, system implementations, and process changes that consider different learning styles and lived experiences across CSD.
  • Coordinate with project teams to align training with project milestones.
  • Communicate updates through written materials, virtual sessions, and briefings.


Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish performance measures and evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Gather and analyze feedback to inform improvements with attention to barriers experienced by diverse groups of learners.
  • Stay current on best practices, training technology, and emerging trends.


Collaboration & Relationship Management

  • Work closely with CSD trainers, subject-matter experts, supervisors, and managers to support teams and encourage equitable participation.
  • Liaise with internal and external partners (e.g., Technology & Innovation, Modernization Office, Provincial Training Teams).
  • Represent CSD on committees and working groups as the training subject matter expert.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field (i.e., Education) plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


The following will be considered assets:

  • Experience developing e learning modules or using digital learning tools (e.g., Articulate 360 Storyline/Rise, Camtasia). 
  • Experience coordinating or delivering training within a government or large, complex organization. 
  • Knowledge of change management principles or experience supporting change initiatives. 
  • Familiarity with Government of Alberta systems, processes, or Common Service Delivery (CSD) operations. 
  • Experience working on cross functional project teams. 
  • Strong facilitation skills for virtual and in person training. 
  • Experience evaluating training effectiveness using surveys, analytics, or performance measures. 
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles or instructional design models. 
  • Experience creating training that supports diverse learners and inclusive workplace practices.
  • Experience working with individuals from varied backgrounds, including those with lived experience relevant to social based programs.
  • Understanding of cultural competency or inclusive leadership principles.

This competition will be used to fill 1 full-time permanent position. The position is remote, and the successful candidate can be located anywhere within Alberta. 

Hours of work are Monday to Friday – 36.25 hours per week.
