Role Responsibilities

Join us as Team Lead, Licensing, where your leadership will directly impact the safe and efficient movement of people and goods across our province. This is your opportunity to play a pivotal role in licensing oversight, program development, and industry engagement—all within a team committed to service excellence, integrity, and continuous improvement.
As Team Lead, Licensing, you will supervise a team of specialists who implement Alberta’s Driver Training and Examination Program. This includes licensing and oversight of Driver Examiners, Driving Instructors, and Driver Training Schools. You will serve as the province’s subject matter expert on driver licensing and training, ensuring program standards align with legislation, stakeholder needs, and public safety outcomes. Your leadership will support team cohesion, operational consistency, and the integration of industry insights into continuous program evolution. In this dynamic role, your ability to build relationships, think strategically, and drive collaboration will be essential.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Leading, coaching, and supporting a geographically dispersed team to ensure consistent program delivery and staff development.
- Overseeing the implementation of Alberta’s Driver Training and Examination Program, including licensing of schools, instructors, and examiners.
- Monitoring operational performance and program data to identify trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Resolving complex or high-risk licensing issues while ensuring compliance with policy, legislation, and public safety standards.
- Developing and delivering training sessions and materials for staff, industry stakeholders, and partners.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with industry, government, and community stakeholders to support program goals.
- Communicating regulatory changes, policy updates, and program standards in clear, accessible ways.
- Providing subject-matter expertise to inform program planning, legislative development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This position requires travel throughout Alberta—typically less than 25% of the work schedule. It offers a dynamic blend of classroom, on-road, and stakeholder-facing work, ideal for those who thrive in flexible, hands-on environments.

Qualifications
Required:
- A related university degree (e.g., Education, Criminal Justice, etc.), and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Applications without cover letters demonstrating how your skills and experience relate to the role will not be considered. It will be used to assess writing and communication skills.
- Experience in driver training and licencing.
- Demonstrated experience in leading or supervising a team of professionals.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent, and ability to travel within Alberta.
Preferred:
- Eligible for or currently holding a Commercial Class 1, 2, or 3 licence, Driver Examiner licence, or Driving Instructor licence.
- Proficiency with licensing systems (e.g., TSIS, MOVES).
Equivalencies are:
- A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Additional Position Details:
- This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
