Team Lead, ER/OHS:
As the Team Lead, ER/OHS, reporting to the Portfolio Director(s), you will be responsible for the supervision of a small team of Employee Relations Consultants (ERCs) and Occupational Health and Safety Consultants by providing coaching, mentoring and oversight in the planning, development, and delivery of ER/OHS advisory services, while partnering with the HRBP portfolio team colleagues in support to departmental clients.

You will direct the delivery of human resource services in ER/OHS by ensuring the effective delivery of client advisory services that are aligned and integrated within the client department’s business context, strategic direction, and priorities. 

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Manage a team of consultants who provide effective ER/OHS advisory services to department clients. You will work seamlessly with the entire HR team, providing strategic advice to your team, HRBPs and department clients on various contentious and complex employee relations matters. 
  • You will need to effectively liaise, collaborate, and coordinate with the PSC policy centres as well as provide appropriate guidance on the interpretation and application of relevant legislation, regulations, directions, and the Collective Agreement.
  • You will lead and support various ER related projects and initiatives related to various activities including, workforce adjustments, job action readiness, performance management, and attendance management. 
  • You lead and support the grievance process in partnership with ER Consultants and HRBPs, as well as conduct fact finding investigations as required.
  • You will provide ER support on complex and sensitive employee relations matters, preparing briefings, delivering presentations, and attending meetings with department clients

Develop Self and Others: As the technical expert in their field it is critical that the incumbent create an environment of learning and sharing expertise. Demonstrating the desire to invest in the development of the long-term capability of self and others is important to ensure program excellence.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University graduation in Business, Commerce, Human Resources, Labour Relations or a related field, and a minimum of five years of related experience as an HR professional is required. ER/LR experience in a unionized environment as well as prior experience in administering the grievance process and conducting workplace investigations or fact findings is required.


Equivalencies:

  • A related two-year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution and a minimum of seven years of related experience; or a related one-year certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution and a minimum of eight years of related experience. Additional related education will also be considered as an equivalency for related experience.


Candidates who meet the following criteria will be given preference:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in Employee Relations within a unionized environment.
  • Strong foundation in HR generalist functions.
  • Solid understanding of the Collective Agreement and HR Directives.
  • Familiarity with FOIP, Human Rights legislation, and Ethics Commissioner policies/processes as they relate to employment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for handling contentious or emotionally charged situations.
  • Strong listening, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience supporting fact-finding and grievance processes.
  • Project management skills.
