Role Responsibilities

The Team Lead, Data Governance provides technical leadership and subject matter expertise to ensure the Alberta Government real property asset data is accurate, reliable, and aligned to business, reporting, and audit use. The role is accountable for enforcing data governance standards, leading complex cross ministry, multistakeholder initiatives, and providing direct people leadership, with responsibility for team performance and team outputs related to data quality.

 

The primary responsibilities for the Team Lead, Data Governance include, but are not limited to:

 
1. Inventory Data Integrity and Governance – Lead and maintain strong asset data governance and stewardship practices, including clear business rules, quality controls, and oversight. Ensure that asset information remains accurate and consistent throughout its lifecycle.

 
2. Project Leadership - Lead complex, multi stage projects encompassing large-scale data updates along with financial and space related reporting. Identify and manage data risks, meet tight timelines, and support audit requirements.

 
3. Inventory System Enhancement – Serve as the subject matter expert for real property asset systems, ensuring they support reliable asset information and integrate effectively with related platforms. Contribute to system upgrades or replacements by helping define requirements, validating data, and supporting transition activities.

 

4. Data Integration and Reporting - Turn complex inventory data into clear, accurate, decision-ready information reports to support planning, investment decisions, and senior leadership reporting.

 

5. Guidance and Knowledge Dissemination – Provide training on data standards, system use, processes, and best practices. Develop training materials and lead onboarding support and knowledge sharing activities to promote consistent and reliable data use.

 

6. Team Supervision and Development - Provide direct supervision to the Asset Inventory Team including setting priorities, assigning work, coaching performance, and ensuring timely, high quality outputs.  Foster a collaborative and positive team culture that promotes engagement and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standards
 
Two-year technical diploma in Asset Management, Data Governance, Spatial Data, Property Records Management, Business Management or in a related field plus six years related experience; or equivalent as described below;

 

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 

 

•    1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
•    1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

•    Demonstrated experience leading and supervising staff, including performance management, coaching, workload prioritization, and accountability for team deliverables and data quality.
•    Expertise in asset management inventory systems, including BLIMS, FAMIS, and integration with multiple platforms
•    Skilled in maintaining data integrity through validation, quality assurance, and compliance standards
•    Ability to lead complex projects and deliver accurate, timely reports
•    Experienced in managing system enhancements and upgrades including release management, User Acceptance testing, and troubleshooting
•    Proficient in data reporting and integration using Power BI and relational databases
•    Skilled in developing and delivering tailored technical training programs
•    Knowledgeable in compliance requirements, including FOIP, legislation, and audit frameworks
•    Strong technical communication and stakeholder engagement skills
