The Energy Operation division is responsible for leasing and maintaining Alberta’s Crown mineral rights and for calculating, assessing, collecting, and reconciling royalty revenues from natural gas, natural gas liquids, helium, conventional oil, oil sands, coal, and metallic and industrial minerals on behalf of Albertans.  In addition, the division looks after Petrinex, which is a key volumetric reporting system for industry and western Canada.
 

The Royalty Operations branch plays a key role in the development of Alberta’s energy industry and collects revenue from the development of Alberta’s conventional oil and natural gas resources on behalf of Albertans. Energy development in Alberta is a key driver of Alberta’s economy and the Royalty Operations branch is a significant contributor of revenue to the province.

Role Responsibilities

Royalty Operations, within the Energy Operations Division under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, currently has a position available for agile and results-driven team lead who can provide leadership, direction and oversight to their team, developing innovative solutions to ensure correct functioning and development of systems that contribute to the collection of conventional oil royalty revenues.

The Team Lead position reports to the manager, Oil Royalty Programs and Rate in Oil Royalty Operations. This position is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of applications to support operational and legislative requirements in and ever-changing environment that is integrated with many other branches within Energy and Minerals.  This position performs al work in accordance with relevant government and Ministry legislation, policies, and guidelines.

Team Lead, Business Solutions responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 

  • Lead projects, coordinate initiatives, and participate in various committees for evaluating, assessing, and changing policy directions, programs, or objectives as they relate to Oil Royalty Operations.
  • Ensure that Oil Royalty Operations business requirements are addressed during system planning, development, design, and implementation.
  • Supervise application testing during development and maintenance phases.
  • Contribute to the efficient and cohesive operations of the Royalty Operations Branch.
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to team members to fulfill all operations tasks within the Royalty Operations Branch.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field plus two (2) years progressively responsible related experience. 
Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

The following will be considered assets:
 

  • Experience in oil and gas royalty business including AER reporting and industry practices.
  • Experience in production and financial accounting practices.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and consider information from multiple sources and perspectives to develop solutions and options.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to present significant amounts of complex information in a clear and concise format.

Hours of Work:

7.25 daily hours.
36.25Hrs Weekly hours.
8:15AM to 4:30PM (Monday to Friday).

Location: Petroleum Plaza Building North Tower, 9945 108 Street NW, Edmonton.

This is a Permanent Full-Time position.
