The Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives division provides strategic and integrated policy and project services and functions for the ministry. The division’s focus flows from the work of its branches: Strategic Policy & Planning, Community & Public Safety Services, and Modernization, IMT & Research.

Role Responsibilities

The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services has an exciting opportunity for a Systems and Services Strategist in the Modernization, IMT and Research branch!

Are you an expert in information technology, business transformation or business analysis who wants to lead the way in transforming systems and services to deliver improved user experiences, simplify processes and enhance outcomes for Albertans interacting with the Justice system? Do you enjoy identifying challenges and leading the charge to solutions?  If so, the Systems and Services Strategist role in the new formed Modernization, IMT and Research branch within the Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives Division may just be right for you!

Reporting to the Manager of Modernization Strategy, as the Systems and Services Strategist you are responsible for providing specialist analytical and business support to ministry IT projects and initiatives in the form of research, business and financial analysis, and business and IT planning, feasibility studies, requirements analysis and business case development. 
You will require familiarity with digital approaches in government services, strong business relationship management and technical skills. 

Key responsibilities for this position:

 

  • Supporting the IMT strategic planning and prioritization and facilitating effective management of the digital roadmap in support of ministry modernization objectives.
  • Leading the assessment of current operational processes and identifying key business drivers, strategies and requirements that impact service delivery in order to develop appropriate modernization strategies and solutions.
  • Coordinating with business and operational teams, technology and subject matter experts and championing the use of new and innovative digital solutions to deliver on transformation of a range of legacy systems and architectures.
  • Working with stakeholder groups to align priorities, funding, resourcing by maintaining and building open communication channels and providing ongoing updates on progress, risks and costs impacting priority projects.

Qualifications

  • A related university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration etc.
  • Minimum 4 years’ progressively responsible related experience working in roles focused on IT systems or business analysis.
     

Equivalency: 

  • A related Masters plus a minimum of 2 years related experience.
  • A related two-year diploma plus a minimum of 6 years related experience.
  • A related one-year certificate plus a minimum of 7 years related experience


Assets: 
 

  • Experience leading consultations and analysis in a complex IT environment identifying business and technology opportunities, including gaps in service and system efficiencies, for service improvement and innovation.
  • Experience supporting and maintaining departmental IMT programs and mandates, procurement and contract management best practices, financial operations, business plans and policies.
  • Understanding of the functioning of courts and other government systems, architecture, public policy, and legislative/regulatory development.
  • Experience collaborating and influencing cross-functional stakeholders. 
  • Experience translating information technology concepts into strategies and plans.
