The Trade division leads a government‑wide approach to promoting trade and advancing Alberta’s trade interests. It works with partner ministries to enhance market access, supports businesses in diversifying into international markets and engages industry and diplomatic stakeholders to expand export opportunities.
Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Issues Manager, the Strategic Office Coordinator provides operational support and coordination for the Assistant Deputy Minister’s office (ADMO). This position maintains strong relationships with the branches and their leadership, ensures that the ADMO is appropriately supported and that priority initiatives are delivered within scope and on time.
Responsibilities include:
Assistant Deputy Minister Office Support:
- Monitors and analyzes emerging trends and current issues to support awareness and decision-making.
- Provides research, analysis, and coordination support on projects and initiatives led by the ADMO.
- Supports planning of ADMO meetings and events, including coordinating logistics and liaising with the Ministerial Correspondence Unit (MCU), the Deputy Minister’s Office (DMO) and other GoA stakeholders.
Division Support:
- Coordinates the tracking and monitoring of divisional priorities, including maintaining web-based tools (e.g., ARTS) and supporting continuous improvement of tracking processes.
- Supports the prioritization and tracking of initiatives to ensure timelines and standards are met for Action Requests, cross-department and cross-ministry requests, and other divisional priorities.
- Facilitates alignment of priority initiatives by coordinating with the ADMO, DMO, and Minister’s Office (MO).
- Collaborates with divisional staff to support efficient and effective workflow processes.
- Prepares regular reporting on priority initiatives using qualitative and quantitative information.
- Provides coverage for the Issues Manager or other ADMO roles, as required.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborates with branch staff on edits to ADMO briefing notes and other correspondence.
- Identifies and flags divisional issues and opportunities for collaboration, coordinating communication and response approaches as required.
- Liaises with other ministries and JETI staff to coordinate projects and support alignment of materials
- Builds and maintains relationships with ADMO teams across the department to support information sharing and coordination.
Information Requests / Action Requests / Briefings:
- Supports the drafting, editing and coordination of briefing packages for department priorities
- Reviews and edits responses to ensure content quality, accuracy, completeness, political sensitivity, and reflection of department or division policy or position.
- Works with divisional staff to ensure briefing materials are consistent, timely, high-quality and aligned with ministry and government priorities.

Qualifications
University graduation in Business, Commerce, Political Science or Arts or a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible and related experience. One year of degree for one year of education and vice versa will be considered as equivalent.
Knowledge and skills required:
- This role requires in-depth knowledge of government structure, operations, decision-making processes, the policy cycle, and legislative processes.
- Understanding JETI's mandate, key initiatives, programs, goals, relevant legislation, governance, and practices is an asset, to support the implementation of strategic plans and ministry initiatives.
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where direction may shift due to internal and external pressures.
- Demonstrate adaptability, sound judgment, and resilience by remaining calm, focused, and responsive while adjusting priorities to meet business needs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely convey information and effectively engage with a range of stakeholders.

Notes
There is one full-time permanent position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
The work location is Commerce Place, Edmonton.
