Role Responsibilities
Reporting respectively to the Manager, Policy and Program Development and the Manager, Motor Vehicle Modernization, these positions support complex policy, legislative, modernization, and program development work that shapes the future of Alberta’s transportation system. Together, the roles provide strategic analysis, advice, coordination, and implementation support for initiatives related to transportation policy, regulatory review, service delivery improvement, stakeholder engagement, and long-term modernization planning, including work that informs senior leadership decision-making.
The responsibilities of these roles include:
- Leading and coordinating complex policy, legislative, modernization, and program development initiatives.
- Conducting research, analysis, and option development on transportation policy, legislation, regulation, service delivery, and operational issues.
- Developing recommendations, identifying implications and risks, and supporting mitigation and implementation strategies.
- Preparing briefing notes, reports, presentations, and other materials for senior leadership and decision-makers.
- Supporting the planning and implementation of policy, program, and operational changes.
- Leading or supporting stakeholder engagement, consultation, and facilitation activities with internal and external partners.
- Building collaborative relationships and incorporating stakeholder input into policy and program development.
- Representing the division on committees, working groups, and cross-ministry initiatives.
- Supporting broader branch planning, coordination, and priority work as required.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- University degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration or related, PLUS 4 years related experience or equivalent as described.
- A cover letter clearly demonstrating relevant skills and competencies tailored to this position.
Equivalencies:
- Related 1 year certificate PLUS a minimum 7 years of experience; or
- Related 2-year diploma PLUS a minimum 6 years of experience; or
- Related minimum 8 years of experience.
The successful candidate MUST also have:
- Highly proficient in using Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of transportation legislation, regulation, and policy.
- Strong understanding of the theory and practice of policy analysis, including complex, policy and program development process, policy planning and options development and decision-making processes within government.
- Understanding of theory and practice of problem-solving and analytical techniques.
- Strong understanding of the theory and practice of engagement/consultation, including stakeholder engagement development process, engagement planning, analyzing results, and decision-making processes within government.
Assets:
- Experience working on policy packages for Cabinet approval.
- Current knowledge of the transportation system in Alberta, as well as familiarity with issues affecting drivers and stakeholders.
- Experience working with related transportation industry representatives.
- Experience working with key ministry partners including SARTR, PSES, Justice and Technology and Innovation.
- Experience in facilitation discussions on complex issues with various stakeholders.
- Knowledge of contract development and management.
- Knowledge and proficiency in survey tools, such as Opinio or SurveyMonkey.
- Knowledge of Adobe Professional tools, including Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Term of Employment: 2 Permanent, Full-time positions and 1 Temporary - 8 month position.
Hours of Work: 7.25 hours daily / 36.25 weekly – Monday to Friday
Location: Twin Atria Building, 4999 98 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta
